15 Hudson Yards will be the first building with for-sale residences to open in Manhattan's new Hudson Yards neighborhood; the first residents are expected to begin moving in December 2018. Designed to LEED Gold standards, the 70-story, 900-foot-tall tower anchors the southeast corner of Hudson Yards East at 30th Street and 11th Avenue. Utilizing cold-bent glass to achieve its shape, 15 Hudson Yards softens the conventional expressions of glass towers, with its surface expressed as fluid and supple. The tower morphs into a quatre leaf at the top, shaped to maximize panoramic views in all directions.

MCC Theater was founded in 1986 by a collective of young actors, writers and directors, and is now one of New York’s leading off Broadway theater companies. MCC asked us to create a home for their community of artistic directors, playwrights, actors, technicians, youth program, and patrons. They wanted a facility that allowed for collaboration and synergy between its members. Flexibility to run multiple productions simultaneously and spaces allowing for them to expand their range and ambition was critical.

Elkus Manfredi Architects designed an 18-story residence hall that answers Emerson College’s critical demand for on-campus housing, addresses location challenges presented by the site, and serves the needs and desires of Emerson students – creative millennials who crave spaces that provide opportunity for community, social connection, and inspiration. The 18-story, 375-bed residence hall offers suites and single-, double-, and triple-occupancy student residences in the heart of the college’s growing campus in Boston’s historic Theatre District. The design features five, themed destination common rooms that address the urban campus’s need for indoor and outdoor communal student spaces. Achieved LEED-NC Gold while preserving and incorporating the façade of a historic building into the new structure.

The Theatre School is a gateway to DePaul University’s Lincoln Park campus. Used for both instruction and performance, the building welcomes students, faculty and staff during the day and theatergoers at night. Emphasizing openness and transparency, the building puts the excitement of a theater education on view for the neighborhood. The five-story building is a composition of rectangular forms clad in limestone, translucent glass and transparent glass. Projecting from the building at the corner is the Sondra & Denis Healy Theatre, serving as a sign for the university. The north façade softly glows at night, a beacon for the Theatre School. Similar to a scrim, the translucent glass wall can reveal the 100-seat flexible theater behind it.

This project was awarded a 2009 AIA Connecticut Design Award for Residential Built Design. The Jury commented that, "The house draws you in because of the fineness of its structure. The viewer wants to see beyond the whimsical, unique sunscreen, but wishes it to remain in place because of its total integration with the structure. The fabric of the building is well thought out, and its scale attracts the viewer."
