Aquatic Centre Sourcéane / Auer Weber + CAAU

“Sourcéane” is a new sports, leisure and wellness swimming hall in Douai, in the North of France. Due to its location, the aquatic centre will be an essential part of the future eco-quarter of “Le Raquet”, a new city district, at whose heart will be a landscaped park. The new swimming hall lies at its northeastern end, at the interface between the artificial landscape of the park and the urban structure of the city. The project is oriented towards the future tramway station and a central urban square.

Auneau Cultural Center / Architecture Patrick Mauger

Inspired by the nearby covered market, the project designed by the Patrick Mauger agency in Auneau takes the form of a contemporary hall. The building is set back from the street, creating an esplanade that extends the main market square. A friendly, diversified space combining cultural activities and community life has been created.

Lycée GeorGes-cormier Highschool Extension / Ateliers O-S architectes

The restructuration operation of the school, one of the largest in the Region Ile-de-France, is scheduled in several phases of interventions in an occupied site. A comprehensive renovation of the obsolete heating system and a replacement of woodwork is implemented. A new maneuver track for heavy weight driving training, a new car park, an extension workshops and classrooms are also created. Our project aims to improve quality everyday life of users and enhance the school’s heritage. The architectural language of existing extensions is similar to the existing technical buildings.

As a regional media library situated in the village of Blanzat, in the hilly volcanic Auvergne region of central France, the project needed to address two distinct contexts and scales simultaneously. This produced a kind of “double reading” of its built form and materiality at both the territorial and the local scale. Placed at the edge of a large grass prairie flanking the edge of the upper village, the large wood, zinc, and concrete panel-clad mass of the library brings a new and larger institutional scale to the site, while its complex array of roof pitches evokes the more immediate and domestic context of its tile-roofed residential surroundings. We began to think of its iconography as that of an oversized house with garden.

The conception of our project joins in a second reading of the landscape of the road of Saint leu, by integrating its history and its transformations to assert the manners and the qualities and reveal the poetry of the place. The project will have to play the role of revelation of a district in future, articulation of a split up territory, a synthesis of a town planning consisted of industrial and commercial buildings, detached flags of the last century, complexes and public equipments. The stakes are to impose a politeness on a secondary road, to desynchronize the shelf space built by the rhythm of the automobile, to modify the perception of a landscape having undergone without having controlled it the transformation of its territory. The politeness is there, but very little legible; it is a question of making it the evident presence.

RATP Bus Center in Thiais / ECDM

Located in the southern suburban area of Paris along wide boulevards and roadway interchanges, in an industrial landscape characterised by a succession of boxes (at best basic), the RATP Bus Centre in Thiais controls all the bus lines of the south and east of Paris.

Located at the intersection of the homogeneous and haussmannian landscape along Gossec Street, and of the disparate architecture made up through time on Picpus Street, the site on which this 63 social housing program is established is an element of a typical “collage-city” landscape, also characterized by a double movement of the natural soil: the connection, on its front part, to the deep slope of the Picpus Street, and, on its backyard limit, to a landmark garden, 1.50 m higher than the average level of the soil.
