The central theme of Dutch Design Week this year is Get Set and indicates a shift in mindset: We're bracing ourselves, it's time to take action, and we have to do it together. The Solar Pavilion’s main argument is to transition from solar technology to solar design. Marjan van Aubel: Solar energy needs a new, more personal perspective that is part of our culture. This pavilion demonstrates that solar energy can be experienced and used in a new way. The pavilion is a sensory experience and, during Dutch Design Week, the place to poetically experience solar energy harvesting.

The former Philips area. The Strijp-S ensemble in Eindhoven was designed and built during the second machine age. The machine and the factory became predominant, resulting in a truly efficient and rational expression. The industrial logistics and technical principles of the Philips manufacturing process, inspired by Ford and Taylor, resulted in a collection of buildings with a very different look. An autonomous piece of the city with strictly organized and physically connected buildings. An urban system of streets and squares where long lines prevailed and functionality was sacred.

When the old Speelhuis Theatre from structuralist architect Piet Blom (1977) burned down, the theatre found refuge in a mostly vacant Catholic church. In this period the church turned out to be a perfect backdrop for a whole range of activities and performances. It was then decided that the theatre should stay in the church permanently with some necessary extensions and improvements.
