The site for this multifamily housing is located in JP Nagar, Bangalore, Karnataka, and it measures 60'x40', constituting a tight urban plot. The housing is designed to accommodate five families. The initial brief was to create the outer skin or facade for the building. However, we went beyond the given brief and proposed a building screen that transcended the concept of a mere facade. We deemed it essential to envision the facade as a living element - "a breathing enclosure," and convinced the clients to share this perspective.

House on 46 is a multi-generation house on a tight urban plot in south Bangalore. The intent was to understand how domesticity, nature, and privacy can be layered within compact urban plots while offering dynamic and generous layouts that can be adapted by the inhabitants. On the street-side facade, a system of operable metal screens creates the outermost 'skin' or exoskeleton and starts blurring the boundaries between private and public. It creates a dynamic connection with the street spectator, with a fluid porousness according to the angle of visual engagement. Made using slim mild-steel fins of varying sizes and thicknesses, the panels are stiffened through the pattern, at the same time minimizing waste owing to the varying lengths.

Upon becoming a sovereign country, free from British Rule, the people of India found themselves faced with questions they had never needed to answer before. Coming from different cultures and origins, the citizens began to wonder what post-independence India would stand for. The nation-builders now had the choice to carve out their own future, along with the responsibility to reclaim its identity - but what was India's identity? Was it the temples and huts of the indigenous folk, the lofty palaces of the Mughal era, or the debris of British rule? There began a search for a contemporary Indian sensibility that would carry the collective histories of citizens towards a future of hope.

Thriving to rebalance forces and close the gap of gender inequality, the world is moving slowly but surely into a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future. One of the theory's foundational characteristics is its holistic approach to the human being: feelings, imagination, spirit, and intellect are considered unique to every individual, and thoughts, feelings, and actions are understood to always be linked.
