KITONOKO is a community-oriented complex located in a suburban commercial district, conceived as a place where architecture quietly connects people, work, and everyday life. Surrounded by large-scale retail and roadside developments, the project seeks to introduce a more human-scaled, open, and approachable environment within a typically car-oriented context. Rather than operating as a closed commercial facility, the building encourages local residents, visitors, and staff to naturally intersect through spatial openness and continuity.

Beginning with the renovation of a 70-year-old wooden one-story house and followed by the addition of a new community wing at the rear of the site, the project evolves from a private home into an architecture of relationships — where people, spaces, and time are gently intertwined.

Despite its compact footprint, the apartment unfolds with a richness of perception and movement, orchestrated through shifting sightlines, varied floor levels, and nuanced material transitions. The generous ceiling height and a private roof terrace serve as key spatial assets, enabling a layout that encourages both fluid circulation and moments of calm, shared intimacy.

This is a project to convert a property with a poor approach into a men's salon on the third floor of a tenant building in an arcade in Naka Ward, Hiroshima City, which is entered from a closed and narrow spiral staircase. By using the poor visibility and approach as a backhand, the shop proposes fashion, art, and lifestyle that only those who arrive here can know. We wondered if we could create a space like a members-only online salon that only you know about and don't want to share with others, making you want to come back again. The name of the shop is derived from the British musician of the same name, The 1975, and I had listened to his albums in the past, so music became a common image source with the client.

When we were commissioned to renovate a newly built condominium for sale, our challenge was to create a space that would make the most of the new and beautiful living environment that was currently fully habitable. During our visits to the site, we observed that while the location, security, and convenience were excellent, the furnishings and other items were a combination of mass-produced, ready-made items. This seemed to us to be a combination that could be considered luxurious, but perhaps not in the way that the client had in mind. We felt that this was where the answer lay this time.

Since the new location would be on the first floor and more than double the space, we were asked to design a store that would not only cater to the core vintage clothing enthusiasts of the past, but would also broaden its customer base. When I looked at the items lined up in the space before the relocation, I felt as if they were one-of-a-kind haute couture pieces that, despite being vintage clothing, conveyed the handiwork of careful processing of each item, It had the power to instantly change the concept of vintage clothing that I had felt before, I felt it was necessary to create a space that would convey this impression to visitors.

One day out of 365 is someone's birthday. If that one day is a wedge that marks the anniversary of a person's birthday, the remaining 364 days are a period of ordinary, ordinary life during which a person grows up. People cherish these days. The name of unbirthday, a children's clothing boutique in Naka-ku, Hiroshima City, may have such a meaning.

This is a project to renovate a former retro hair salon on the second floor of a building on a narrow alley that seems to have been left behind by urban development, a short walk across the street on Hondori Avenue in Naka Ward, Hiroshima City. The name of the store was coined from the first and last name of the owner, instead of the seasonal winter word FUYU. When I visited the site for the first time and heard the name and meaning of the store from the owner, I was surprised by his view of the world and thought that FUYU could be a way to break away from the mundane and conventional. I felt there was a possibility that I could create a space with a different approach.
