A residential building has been designed in Haren, Groningen. The design consists of seven spacious apartments, a shop, and an underground parking garage. The building is situated at the beginning of a shopping street, between a church and a cemetery, and surrounded by small-scale buildings. The new structure needs sensitive integration into the surroundings.

Inspired by the mission to better connect the burgeoning Groningen district, and to transform it into an interactive social space, De Zwarte Hond was commissioned by real estate developer MWPO to design a multifunctional and adaptive central building for the neighborhood. The innovative community hub was inaugurated on November 2nd.

Energy Academy Europe / Broekbakema + De Unie Architecten

The Energy Academy Europe (EAE) is the most sustainable education building of The Netherlands. The natural elements of earth, water, air, and sunlight are used innovatively in a solar chimney, winter garden, atrium and air labyrinth. This results in both a BREEAM Outstanding score and an energy-positive structure that will completely offset its carbon footprint within 40 years.

Community Center in Groningen / Kwint Architecten

Kwint Architecten designed a community centre for the Paddepoel-Zuid & Tuinwijk districts in de dutch City of Groningen. The community center is located in a parc, called the Bessemoerpark, as a link between the two districts. As part of the transformation of the parc, Kwint Architecten was assigned to design a building with it’s own character, independent from the parc. The building is set up as an unpretentious master volume with an elongated shape. The volume is placed crosswise in the elongated parc, as a result of which transforms the building in a link between the two adjacent city districts.
