        <![CDATA[<p>Atrium Ljungberg unveiled <a href="https://www.archdaily.cl/cl/1002851/la-construccion-del-proyecto-de-desarrollo-urbano-de-madera-mas-grande-del-mundo-comenzara-en-2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stockholm Wood City</a> in Sweden, the world's largest urban construction project in wood, and in Norway, just four years ago, Voll Arkitekter completed the <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/934374/mjostarnet-the-tower-of-lake-mjosa-voll-arkitekter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mjøstårnet Tower</a> on Lake Mjøsa, one of the tallest wooden buildings in the world at 18 stories. On the other side of the planet, the <a href="https://tallwood.cl/sitio/proyecto-coyhaique/?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.cl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tamango</a> project by <a href="https://tallwood.cl/sitio/?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.cl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tallwood Architects</a> is an example of the challenges and opportunities of wood construction in Chile, as it could become <a href="https://www.archdaily.cl/cl/992987/el-primer-edificio-de-madera-de-america-latina-se-construye-en-la-patagonia-chilena" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the first 12-story building with a prefabricated wood structure in Latin America</a>. Meanwhile, in Peru, the <a href="https://www.archdaily.cl/cl/1004164/construye-para-crecer-el-proximo-conjunto-residencial-de-madera-mas-alto-de-sudamerica-puede-estar-en-peru" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Construye para Crecer</a> project by <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/office/poggione-plus-biondi-arquitectos" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Poggione+Biondi Arquitectos</a> won the <a href="https://www.archdaily.pe/pe/992456/conoce-los-ganadores-de-la-xix-bienal-de-arquitectura-de-peru-2022" target="_blank" rel="noopener">XIX National Architecture Biennial 2022</a> with a residential complex to be built mainly of wood. Nearby, <a href="https://www.archdaily.cl/cl/1004711/viviendas-sociales-de-madera-en-uruguay-en-camino-hacia-la-innovacion-en-la-arquitectura-de-interes-social" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Uruguay recently concluded its social housing in wood competition</a>, paving the way toward innovation in social interest architecture. Furthermore, in 2020, <a href="http://www.guallart.com/?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.cl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vicente Guallart</a> won an <a href="http://www.cxaadc.cn/index.html?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.cl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">international competition</a> to define the standards for the buildings of a new city in China. The project, titled <a href="https://www.archdaily.cl/cl/945171/vicente-guallart-disena-una-ciudad-autosuficiente-de-madera-con-viviendas-post-covid" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Self-Sufficient City</a>, was already a design that materialized a new urban model in <a href="https://www.archdaily.cl/cl/tag/madera">wood</a> across four city blocks.</p>]]>

His research focuses on the potential of materials such as bamboo and mass timber for the construction sector, and their positive impacts on the world. “Throughout my professional career both in university (including my PhD research on the carbon footprint of engineered bamboo and wood) and industry the past 15 years I have found there are many misconceptions about these materials which hamper their large scale adoption. For this reason I ‘translated’ my research findings into two contemporary books for designers and architects about the potential of bamboo: <a href="http://www.boomingbamboo.com?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.com" target="_blank">Booming Bamboo</a>, and engineered timber: <a href="http://www.tomorrows-timber.com?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.com" target="_blank">Tomorrow’s Timber</a>. They aim to dispel these myths and show the incredible potential of the latest generation of biobased building materials in the required transition to a carbon neutral, healthy and circular built environment.” We recently had the opportunity to talk with him about these topics. Mjøstårnet is the first time in history that something like this has been constructed on this scale. It’s also, the first time in history that the materials and the expertise have been sourced locally. Our client says that standing on top of the viewing platform of Mjøstårnet, you can “actually see” where the timber comes from and where it was processed. And that’s part of our sustainable movement being put into practice. Together with our client and constructor, we began to sketch out the project in early 2015. </p>]]>
