Wine production has long been tied to place, climate, and culture, and in recent decades, architecture has become a central part of this relationship. Wineries are no longer understood only as functional facilities for fermentation, storage, and distribution, but also as spaces where landscape, materiality, and visitor experience intersect. From subterranean cellars hidden beneath fields to sculptural landmarks rising in rural territories, these buildings shape the identity of winemaking regions while offering visitors a carefully choreographed encounter with the process of production.

Although they are an integral and necessary space in residential architecture, the wide variety of design opportunities for bathrooms has often remained overlooked in favor of practicality. Historically programmed for privacy, the contemporary bathroom has been reimagined for a greater sense of openness and comfort - finding a delicate balance between privacy and exposure is facilitated by design objects such as the tub.

The building is an important witness to the history of development within the landscape of Davos, especially for Clavadel. When the Walsers came to the valley at the time, they founded the first settlement and thus brought their way of building with them, the solid-timber log house. Much later, the Davos landscape, with its guesthouses, spa businesses, and, lastly, sanatoriums, took a further step in its development as a settlement, upon which the present-day city of Davos is founded.

This tradition has continued to the present, and chimneys and fireplaces have developed into the most varied designs and forms, providing possibilities both inside and outside a home.

To give you ideas for materials, structures, and spatial configurations, we present 35 remarkable meeting places around the fire.

Not only the name of the house is an allusion to the Villa Foscari La Malcontenta, rather its design is driven by spatial interests deriving from engagement with Palladio’s work. It is centred on a visual equilibrium of the volume, on the interlocking types between interior and exterior space, on the interweaving of wall and buttresses, and on a hierarchization of the facades, formulated as the reaction of the building to its surroundings. An additional essential concern lies in balancing the interior spaces. As in Palladian corridor-free systems, it is the square rectangles that are commonly related to each other.

In front of the hut, a small path leads into the forest of Flims, next to it the sculpture of a hollowed dead woodpecker tree. Opposite there is a stable, together they are forming a kind of a gate into the forest. Both buildings - cabin and stable - were abandoned, about to decline. The formerly inhabited part of the ensemble could have been converted and replaced by new construction. The character of the place had to be preserved.

The wine producers wanted a new service building, consisting of a large fermentation room for processing grapes, a cellar dug into the ground for storing the wine barrels, and a roof terrace for wine tastings and receptions.
