Since then, places such as Sangsu-dong, Hapjeong-dong and Yeonnam-dong begun to act as a brand, and 'Hongdae' became something more than an ordinary place and created new alley culture.

Our ancestors house, which was built on flattened ground and had shape of ¤± or ¤§, was like a small confidential space for one¡¯s family that was based on Confucian philosophy such as geomancy and ethical relationship between husband and wife. Modern city, on the other hand, is reclaiming land from the sea, destroying the nature that had been preserved for centuries and mechanically producing artificial grounds in order to expend a fertile land for human life.

Expansion of Commercial District and Destiny of Residential Area.

In between Apgujeong-dong where the middle class gathered and high tech business town Samsung-dong with Teheran-ro as a center, Cheongdam-dong remained in relatively quiet residential area but alleys are gradually changing in the aftermath of surrounding commercial district. Other than having great market value of apartment and land and advantage of school district in this town, it still has good residential environment, but despite of thorough city planning like district units plan, it has possibility of threatening the residents as target of unwanted commercial district.

The planned site is located in the entrance of Songchu Valley of the foot of Bukhansan. For this reason, many mountain climbers come in and out here from other areas regardless of weekday or weekend. Nevertheless, there is no rest area for village residents, but there are only low wooden benches for customers of restaurants that are built around the trail. In addition, as increasing mountain climbers, it is prospected to accelerate commercialization of this area for example; people have to pay for resting.

A City is a community filled with diverse discrete entities and a silhouette appears by the creation of a standardized system for the mutual co-existence of all entities. It is the Architecture which forms their living environment within this unknown disorder among the city's entities. Architecture is a multi-layered, three dimensional object within the Urban Eco-system. If the architecture is seized by the logic of economy and hardens to a solid object and cannot react flexibly to the variety of changes and the environmental stimulus, the flow of symbiosis forms within the biosphere will inevitably break naturally.

The Paju Free School is not a government-authorized institution but an alternative school officially unauthorized and built by parents seeking a true education. As a matter of course, the land and the building for the school were fully supported by parents. Therefore it was not easy to complete the construction following the schedule. Once every condition was met for construction, the school building had to be built as soon as possible. Further, the planned land was changed five times, and the blueprints had to be made anew several times accordingly.

Most of all, they asked me to design an attic for children. The most important point was how to stabilize the land with the least cost and how to give the building the magnificent mountain view looking toward the east.
