Text description provided by the architects. This house was designed and built on the same plot of land as the extended family's residence to provide privacy for a new family unit. Beyond aligning the building with natural sunlight and wind directions, the form of the house emerged as a direct response to the unique conditions of the site. By tilting the building along the land boundary, we maximized usable space while introducing a courtyard that not only enhances functionality but also captures the prevailing southwest wind. This design transforms the courtyard into a natural ventilation gateway that allows airflow throughout the day.

On the crowded 560 square-meter area, approximately 100 meters from the Ratchayothin intersection, the context of this land is surrounded by apartments, schools, and residences. We questioned how we could design this house to be private but yet still connected to the context of the main city, considering what would affect the privacy of the house and the owner. Due to the living space conditions and the size of the land, this house has been designed vertically by necessity.

This seven story-residential and commercial building is located at Sathorn, Bangkok’s midtown area. Because the land has a very high value, every square meter is well designed to be able to create useful and meaningful functions. The owner aims to build a house that would be “the heart of the family place” where, eventually, every member will stay together. Therefore, the individual users' requirements are very important to create a house where everyone can feel “home.”

The context of the socialized neighborhood has recently changed in the city. We are strangers and newcomers; we have not grown or experienced life together. Therefore, we had to redefine the relationships between neighbors. The dependence on each other has influenced the result of this design. As we had no connection to the pedestrians and cars, we agreed that privacy should be managed on this side. However, we still need suitable natural sunlight for the building, so we designed this house in an L-shape. The letter has been divided into three parts, utilizing the benefits of these separations for suitable clerestory and air vents. Due to our left neighbor, we have designed to share the space together, sized 198 square meters, creating the atmosphere of an airy and open house.

The site’s face is 10 meters while its length is 34 meters. Once cutting the shortening of the land is done, it would provide a house that looks narrow and long like a commercial building. The house front tangible with the road is in the west so the parking lot is put right in front of the house so that cars could reverse easily, whereas the living space is put in the north to evade too much sunlight while giving privacy. The ladder and restrooms are placed in the west to block sunlight and heat, making the living spaces and bedroom not get direct sunlight and can still be cozy and not too hot in all parts of the day.

By studying the surroundings and space available, a certain similarity is shared with the site and the ancient Chinese communal architecture of “Siheyuan”. The traditional quadrangle compound houses a central courtyard which is surrounded by houses on each side, akin to how the landscape area is flanked by towering buildings and the Surasak Skytrain station on all four sides.

Chia Tai Farm is a small-scale (310 sq.m.) urban cuisine restaurant that serves the menu by following the concept of farm-to-table. The restaurant space consists of a Fresh Product Market area, a Tree bar, a Dining area, a Dining garden, a Home garden product, a Chef table room, and a Seed gallery. The interior circulation is changed to be a part of the Architectural element as diagonal steps which appear prominently landmark, moreover, the diagonal element creates the relationship between exterior space which is the garden, and interior space which is the dining area.

The Common Air-rea - Re-envisioning Public Space in the Age of Air Pollution - At the present, Bangkok, and other big cities around the world, are suffering from poor air quality which has affected the livelihood of their inhabitants. Such low quality of air is caused by invisible pollutants, including Particulate Matter (PM) smaller than 2.5 microns. A major contributor to air pollution is the emission from vehicles. Additionally, agricultural burning, forest fires, and industrial processes are also important emitters of airborne particulate matters. Air pollution is the cause of many illnesses such as respiratory and heart diseases, as well as lung cancer, leading to as many as 7 million deaths per year around the world. The air quality problem is an important challenge that must be addressed in order to improve the quality of life of city dwellers.
