A specialized shop selling and serving Darjeeling tea close to Senkawa station in Toshima-ku Tokyo. The shop consists of 3 separate areas, a seating area, kitchen, and storage to store tea leaves at a constant temperature. The shop is located at a corner of a residential area and in order to meet the owner’s request to build a store where customers can drop in casually, one corner of the shop is built with an open counter and another corner is fully opened to the street.

House in Tsukimiyama / Peak Studio

The site is located in the corner of a residential complex on a hillside in Hiroshima City and is a subdivision of an old residential land that was sold in two parts, north and south. It was once called Tsukimiyama. It is said that the warlord Taira no Kiyomori used to hold moon-viewing parties there. The mountains of the past are no longer visible, but Kaita Bay and the mountains in the distance remain unchanged. I wanted to create a home that would be like a terrain, where I could feel the environment close at hand and yet develop it to suit my own lifestyle.

The premises are located in Soma City, Fukushima. Minamisoma is known for “Soma Nomaoi” wild horse chase festival, one of the biggest festivals Fukushima has to offer—or perhaps best recognized as the “temporary evacuation designated zone”. After the Fukushima nuclear disaster, many moved out of the city and still keep themselves away from the city. There are great quantities of empty houses in the area. The owner and his wife who have separately asked us for a renovation also had no choice but to evacuate temporarily. After deregulation, they chose to go back to the city they had been living in for decades, and we were asked to renovate their cherished home.

Three of the six wooden Nagaya* houses built in 1926, which remain in Osaka City, have been renovated into private lodgings. All three of the existing buildings were vacant, and rain leaks and decays in various places made them look like ruins. On the other hand, the remaining three houses in a row of wooden Nagaya have been renovated and residents continue to live in each.

This is a project to reduce a traditional 50 year old Japanese house because it is too large for two adults to live in. Originally, it was a corridor + marginal type, and the interior was dark as a whole, and there was almost no light even on the north side during the day.

The site is long and narrow corner lot sandwiched between a relatively heavy traffic and a small management passage separated by pedestrians. We propose an architecture that opens to the town through this passage, which is overgrown with greenery and is used as a sidewalk for residents.

This is a plan for housing for the elderly with services, which is run by the social welfare corporation “Kojukai” in Rikuzentakata City, which mainly targets elderly people affected by the tsunami. Immediately after the disaster, there was a demand for utilization of the approximately 2 ha of hillside land acquired by the corporation.

The site is an artificial construction site, has 3m retaining wall in two directions in the north and east, and has a block ridge on the south. The RC wall are erected on the flat ground and the wooden house rides on that. It is also due to the fact that the “building method” in the surrounding area separates the parking space and the living area up and down by artificial ground.
