Nestled in the dunes between Haarlem and the coastal town of Zandvoort, this 1950s villa in Aerdenhout has undergone a thoughtful renovation and expansion. Like many homes from this era, it had been altered over the years, with various extensions distorting its original form. The design approach focused on restoring the villa's integrity by preserving its original volumetry while removing poorly constructed additions. In their place, a new, carefully designed extension wraps around the house, opening it up to the surrounding garden.

Rosa is a thoughtful renovation and ground-floor extension of a 1960s rowhouse in Bussum, The Netherlands. Designed by Atlas Architects, the project integrates contemporary architectural elements while respecting the character of the original brown brick structure. A warm pink palette, used consistently throughout the exterior and garden, defines the visual identity of the project and inspires its name, "Rosa." At the heart of the extension is a large, striking pink concrete masonry block that serves not only as an aesthetic focal point but also as a multifunctional object. The block integrates practical elements such as cabinetry and an outdoor fireplace, creating a seamless blend of form and function. The concrete bricks are arranged in a vertical pattern that further enhances the modern yet cohesive feel, ensuring harmony with the existing building.

It was a unique project for this fierce modernist who had a challenge in forming a relationship in the façades between two historical adjacent buildings. The result is a singular office building that is modern while still referencing the past – albeit abstractly.

Leyhof is a very sustainable residential building in the new Proeftuin Erasmusveld district in The Hague. It gives shape to the desire to live healthily and consciously. Proeftuin Erasmusveld is a neighborhood that is ready for the future on all fronts. Themes like climate/landscape, energy, mobility, living together, and health are central. For Leyhof, the first residential building to be completed in the district, developer BPD selected a young design team through competition. This gave shape to the theme 'Consciously Different Living' in an innovative way. Leyhof has become a green and special living environment for people who choose a healthy future by connecting sustainability and collectivity. Families, starters, and seniors live in the 75 apartments and 33 townhouses. The houses are all conveniently located in relation to the sun and are adjacent to a large courtyard garden and an ecological zone.

Unlike the structures nearby, this house is defined by a monumental, five-story high façade, composed of thick, stone walls and symmetrical openings. Each floor, which has the same distribution and dimensions, is connected by a spiraling wooden staircase ending in a skylight that brings light in. On the ground floor of house, next to the village’s ravine, we find a narrow and long space, formerly used for storing cattle and goods.

Kinderijk is the prime example of a Dutch windmill landscape. In 1997, the landscape’s ensemble of mills and pumping stations was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site. Suddenly Kinderdijk was overrun by busloads of tourists turning the area into a logistical nightmare. The entrance area was turned into a parking lot for tourbuses, the little ramshackle iceskating clubhouse was converted into a provisional souvenir shop and the narrow quays filled up with rows of potable toilet cabins. Overnight the windmills had disappeared behind a wall of clutter. Today, the area is accessed by a sequence of strategically positioned bridges, paths and visitor facilities. The buses are banned to the stop & go on the edge of the area. Instead of the clubhouse, the new Visitor Center is positioned half on water and land restoring the long visual line running along the quay. The Visitor Center’s clever design unbundles the different visitor flows and its subtle architectural language restores the landscape’s identity. Again, as in the early nineties, the windmills - the icons of Kinderdijk - can be seen on arrival.

The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) is the proud tenant of the Trippenhuis in Amsterdam. The Trippenhuis is part of a complex of several buildings along the Kloveniersburgwal in the historic center of Amsterdam and is owned by the Central Government Real Estate Agency. The Trippenhuis was built between 1660 and 1662 for the brothers Louis and Hendrick Trip, rich traders in arms and ammunition. The design is by Justus Vingboons. The Trippenhuis is one of the leading examples of Dutch classicism in Amsterdam and one of the few canal houses with both a monumental front and rear façade.
