Every period and culture has invented a different way of placing the dead in the world (close or far, visible or screened, monumental or almost anonymous), and those choices have always carried social and political weight. Cemeteries are where that weight becomes legible in space, turning belief and regulation into boundaries, paths, and names.

The challenge of designing a house with a tight budget and space constraints, together with the essential duty of responding correctly to the requirements of the user, is sometimes one of the most challenging and motivating tasks an architect can face. How can you take advantage of space most effectively? How can you avoid wasted material? How do you anticipate the possible future expansion of the house? And how do you develop a simple design that also delivers value to its inhabitants?

To help you in this process, we scoured our projects archives to select 30 houses that provide interesting architectural solutions despite measuring less than 100 square meters.

Forming a spatial continuum and taking advantage of the comfortable microclimate in every season, the volume resembles almost a cloister, the central courtyard becoming here a peaceful outdoor space for students to meet.

Some projects seem badly started from their genesis. This is the case of the new Nautical Base of Carnon City. On one hand, you have a sailing club with a building similar to old dilapidated colanders and on the other, local inhabitants hostile to all construction, and in the middle, as an arbitrator, the town hall torn between the two parties. It must be said that the issue is important. Located on the beach, at the exit of the marina, the sailing school enjoys an exceptional panorama on the Mediterranean Sea. In order not to aggravate things, the project must take into account all the wishes of all parties, in addition to respecting the drastic rules of the program and its budget.
