Photographer Luciano Spinelli recently captured the futurist Soviet elevator tower of the Dagomys sanatorium. Located in the microdistrict of Sochi, Russia, the project was part of a larger recreation and hotel complex belonging to the State Committee for Foreign Tourism of the USSR. Spinelli's photos document the atmospheric qualities of the tower and views out across the landscape.

The building, designed by the Cantergiani + Kunze architects office, houses two duplex units of 100m2, with double-height ceilings, apparent concrete finishes, and integrated environments. The solar orientation influenced the distribution of the spaces, such as the position of the living room and kitchen, facing southeast in a glazed façade. A set of metallic brises, re-reading the old muxarabis, offers some protection when the summer sun hits the façade and serves as a visual filter in the kitchen area.

We had to create a space for a couple who appreciates silence and solitude. It was important to make it spacious and at the same time allow each of the tenants to be alone with themselves. We chose eco-friendly plywood as the main material for walls and furniture.

Нам предстояло создать пространство для пары, которая ценит тишину и уединение. Важно было сделать его просторным и в то же время дать возможность каждому из жильцов побыть наедине с собой. Основным материалом для стен и мебели мы выбрали экологичную фанеру.

Although Brutalist architecture is often criticized for its raw, unfinished look, it has been frequently used in the design of public buildings, with many becoming iconic landmarks. Some architects chose to break away from typical concrete structures and implemented a pop of color on the walls, window frames, and flooring, adding some dynamism to the monotonous palette.

The layout of the apartment is quite often found in Moscow, two wings with rooms opposite each other and windows overlooking the two sides. There are different variations of the plan, but the principle is one: in the center, as a link, corridor - and rooms on the sides.

The client has lived in Copenhagen for many years, so he feels comfortable in a minimalistic interior and without curtains on the windows. During his life in Copenhagen, the owner of this Moscow apartment was accustomed to a laconic atmosphere and the absence of curtains on the windows, so to make an interior in Scandinavian style, the only thing he needed was more paint.

The main source of inspiration for the project was the geometry and height of the apartment. In addition, the house is located near Malevich village - not far from the places where the artist Kazimir Malevic worked and rested. The black and red features in the interior were inspired by his heritage.
