The EUmies Awards are organized annually by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe and the European Commission, with the support of the European Union's Creative Europe Programme. Based on the principle that "architecture is not merely a technical or aesthetic matter, but a cultural, environmental, and democratic issue," this 19th cycle of the Prize brings together 410 works from 40 countries and 143 regions across Europe. Beyond recognizing contemporary architecture projects, the Awards also aim to reflect European values such as cultural diversity, sustainability, democracy, and solidarity. This year, most nominated works (23%) are residential projects, including both collective and single-family housing, followed by cultural (13%) and educational (12%) programs. The selection shows a balance between transformations of existing buildings (44%) and new construction (56%), while 12% of the nominees are transnational works and 33% of the studios are 10 years old or younger, underscoring the growing visibility of emerging practices.

Villa O is nestled in a natural setting on a spacious lakeside plot. Positioned at the highest point of the site with a stunning panoramic view, the 237 m² house opens to all four cardinal directions. Departing from the standard house form, this circular volume becomes an architectural sculpture – an organic response to an undefined environment. Four semi-enclosed, sunken courtyards are integrated into the structure, naturally blending the interior with the outdoors. These courtyards are a key conceptual element: they preserve the purity of the building's form, frame views, and draw nature into the home's interior.

It is designed in a rich natural and historical etnographic environment – Dzūkija in Lithuania. It is one of the five ethno-cultural regions of (ethnic) Lithuania, located in southeastern Lithuania. Therefore, every solution of the building, from the smallest architectural detail to the final volume, is solid, continious amd seamless to create the house like a sculpture, harmoniously blending into the natural background.

Thus, there was a need for creating a vibrant live environment all year round. And the residential duplex buildings of aesthetic minimalistic architecture that have "sprouted" in “Seaside garden” are comfortably and practically planned, suitable for living and resting for the whole family.
