Throughout 2018, we selected thousands of projects for publication on our site, occasionally highlighting a few for their innovative techniques and materials, their integration with their context, or their community engagement. Working daily with editors in Brazil, the United States, Mexico, Chile, China, and Northern Ireland, and thanks to the extensive network we have forged with institutions worldwide, we have the tools to gain a much broader perspective on current architectural production—not only in Mexico, but globally.

When discussing design, we always talk about impact and consequently about people, which is why the best designs are empathetic. The Casa del Niño Indígena (Indigenous Children's Home) is a facility that serves as a shelter for Indigenous boys and girls, located in Vícam, one of the eight Yaqui towns in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. The situation is challenging; some travel dozens of miles to study and be cared for here, with practically all of them coming from neighboring towns.

In recent years, architectural production in Mexico has faced a series of extraordinary challenges. Some of these stem from natural disasters that severely shook at least nine states, leaving several areas gravely affected across Mexico City, Puebla, Morelos, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Tlaxcala, Guerrero, and the State of Mexico. However, these events also served as a catalyst, prompting the architectural community to increase its focus—and active involvement—on housing and infrastructure for the most vulnerable sectors of the population.
