Etú Plaza is a shopping center located on an 1,816-square-meter lot in Zone 14 of Guatemala City. The compact size of the site presented a design challenge in achieving maximum efficiency in both parking and commercial profitability. Various preliminary designs were evaluated alongside the client to ultimately define a program that included 5 underground parking levels and 4 levels for commercial spaces.

Guatemala is a country located in Central America that is organized into 22 departments, its capital and most populated city is Guatemala City. Mexico forms the geographic borders that contain this territory to the north and west, Belize and Honduras to the east, and El Salvador to the south. In addition, it faces the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Honduras. It is located in Mesoamerica, home to the Mayan culture, which extended to what we know today as Mexican territory. It is for this reason and for some other reasons related to migration issues that these two countries share similar traits in terms of climate and culture, which is highly enriching when we explore the development of the territory.

Amid paradigm shifts and new opportunities for living, the Colegio de Arquitectos de Guatemala has launched the first Central American Architecture Biennial (BARCA 2021-2022). The initiative aims to establish a shared space for Central American countries, cities, neighborhoods, and people, fostering the exchange of ideas through creativity, research, and academia. Under the premise of rethinking 21st-century architecture and urbanism, BARCA seeks to build a platform for dialogue that showcases Central American architecture from the past decade, creating the first comprehensive overview of the region's contemporary architectural landscape.
