Location. The plot is located in an area of new expansion of the city, next to to residential buildings of a certain height (PB + 7PP) and the two perimeter bands, leaving the central strip of the island for equipment. In this strip, is located the center “Aremi” and facing the 11th of September Street , the new sanitary building. Therefore, our construction finishes forming this central axis of services, in such a way that its South orientation is shown as an horizontal strip that links the ends of the residential blocks and in the north it includes the same comb arrangement as the existing center.

Avinguda Catalunya 11 is a residential project located in the historic district of Sant Cugat del Vallès, at the outskirts of Barcelona. The client’s idea was to turn the house where she grew up in a special building that could contribute to the image of the neighborhood. The building comprises ten apartment units and two commercial spaces. As the site is located within the landmarked area, the design choices were made contemplating the construction guidelines’ rigor.

The project consists on the extension of an existing weekend house near the village of Sant Esteve de Palautordera, one hour north from Barcelona. The existing house had been enlarged with small additions after its completion, but the new room program almost doubled the original surface of the house, and therefore, the new construction couldn´t be understood as one more new volume added to the original. The strategy, from the very beginning, was to treat the overall project as a “dancing couple”, where every part has its own role while dancing the same song.

The agricultural foundation Fundagro is an institution for the promotion of organic farming and the recuperation of biodiversity in local garden vegetable seeds. The foundation is located in Aranzadi Park, which is a recovered meander of the Arga River, on the high course of the Ebro River basin as it passes through Pamplona. This meander was strongly affected by human activity during the twentieth century, during which sports, religious and social facilities, building lots with private dwellings, and land movements to contain the river, had transformed its morphology and landscape away from a natural meander. The process of transformation to recover the meander from the effects of human activity is a project whose main issue is the negotiation between two value categories, the socio-cultural values linked to organic gardening, and natural-fluvial values linked to every meander.

The place that was set to accommodate the extension and the whole environs of Can Baró conserved the charm of those areas in which diversity and certain lack of structure made a forceful, logical and meditated response necessary. The expansion thus emerged from the topography, as a continuity of it, seeking a fusion between the building and the public space, in such a way that the public space is not treated as something that appears between buildings but is integrated into the architecture itself, and the architectural space is something that can be found hidden or camouflaged within the topography.
