PIKOH, School of Arts in Hasselt, offers secondary education in visual, media, and performing arts. Because of the exponential growth of the school, there was a great need for a new building for the first grade with its own classrooms, workshops, restaurant, multipurpose hall, sports hall, and administration. This development is part of the transformation of the "Elfde-Linie" city campus, inspired by the American Campus Model.

House D - S ‒ New construction opens up a view of the surroundings. If you looked carefully, from the lot, you could see no fewer than three beautiful long-distance views of the surrounding rolling fields. However, the pastoral beauty was often hidden by the obstacles inherent to the (dis)order of a natural accumulation of buildings. The basic concept for the new building was therefore to reveal the panorama to its fullest by consciously framing it in a series of unique frames. In this way, an aesthetic added value arose from the need to provide an answer to the contextual limitations.

House C-VL – an original take on a bungalow renovation. In renovating this 1960s-era bungalow, certain areas in the house were kept undefined. This left a lot of room for the personal interpretation of the residents, so that the house came to life very spontaneously. Three squares. A living space that could be doubled at maximum, a deep, narrow lot and an uninspiring original construction: those were the raw ingredients for the renovation of this bungalow.

Momoyo Kaijima and Yoshiharu Tsukamoto of Atelier Bow-Wow and Elizabeth Diller are this year’s Architecture laureates of the Wolf Prize, an annual award highlighting scientists and artists for “their achievements in the interest of mankind”. One of Israel’s most prestigious international awards, the prize’s art categories include painting and sculpting, music and architecture, accompanied by the scientific categories of medicine, agriculture, mathematics, chemistry and physics. The jury commended the three architects’ notable work at the confluence of research, pedagogy and practice, influential for advancing the practice of architecture.

House C - DF ‒ townhouse connects with outdoor space and gets bicycle workshop. The renovation of this classical home on an enclosed plot on the Visserij in Ghent brought once again a logical flow indoors, provided a better connection with the outdoor space, and – despite major technical challenges – integrated the bicycle workshop that the client wanted so badly. A touch of cinematography. While the main residence required few modifications, tabula rasa was created with the old extension of the house.

He and his wife were charmed by a 1965 chalet-style house in Destelbergen (Ghent, Belgium). Westerschans 1B is the second phase of the urban development integration plan that Jeanne Dekkers Architectuur and ZOETMULDER designed for the entire Westerschans area. This development consists of three building complexes with a varied program of social housing, owner-occupied apartments, commercial spaces, sheltered housing, a supermarket, catering establishments and a hotel. The Westerschans area directly borders the historic city centre of Goes, the ring-road, and the water of the Havenkanaal.

Warot Building is the latest addition to the public facilities of the village of Winksele. It hosts a wide range of activities in a carefully designed multifunctional hall. The building is situated on an existing sports campus that is surrounded by rural landscape and public facilities. The large bay window and the covered outdoor space activate the adjoining fields for play.

GO! Campus KA Ninove School / Abscis Architecten

The school campus is located in the centre of the city of Ninove, on a green strip in the middle of a closed building block. This green oasis offers space to three GO!-schools: a kindergarten and primary school, a middle school and a secondary school (athenaeum). The schools were dealing with an enormous shortage of classrooms, which threatened to fill the open space with temporary containers. The assignment consisted of drawing up a master plan for the future development of the entire campus and the construction of several new school buildings and sports infrastructure.

Geometric operation. The task of adding a new pavilion requires to be both attentive to its architectural qualities, and prospective about its potential. The new building is neither an ode nor a critic towards the existing center. It tries, above all, to find rich complementary interrelations with the existing environment and to charge the space in and around it with new possibilities. The designed pavilion acts as a Machikado. This Japanese word refers to a city-corner and is similar to a French Passage. Like a crossroads it concentrates and diffuses at the same time, encouraging equally interaction and isolation. The different dispersed spaces – such as the printmaking studio, where artists can concentrate on their work or the exhibition hall where visitors can wander around the displayed work – cross paths at the center of the new building.

At the Quai aux Pierres de Taille, a former quay of the no longer existing harbour of Brussels, surrounded by old warehouses and next to the Royal Flemish Theatre, a 60’s office tower rises above its neighbours. The style and scale of the construction contrast with the local urban fabric, but thanks to its perpendicular implantation to the street the tower remains discreet and often unnoticed. The project profoundly transformed this building into a mixed-use complex comprising 130 units divided in a variety of dwellings ranging from compact smart studios to generous 3 bedrooms apartments.
