Shortly after, different civilizations and cultures adopted the arch for their own purposes, bridging together structural necessity and aesthetics. In this article, we look at how arches evolved from significant structural elements to captivating decorative details.</p>]]>

        <![CDATA[<p>In December 2007, along with ve other architectural firms, OMA was invited by Chels eld deputy chairman Sir Stuart Lipton to consider the potential of the Commonwealth Institute site. OMA’s proposal sought to save the grade II* listed building by reinjecting life into the modernist monument, the new home for <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/london">London</a>’s Design Museum, while retaining its distinctive copper roof and parabolic form. OMA with Allies and Morrison were the architects responsible for the design of the refurbished structural shell and external envelope of the building. The project required a close working relationship with Design Museum interior architects, John Pawson.</p>]]>

The instatement of the monuments form a part of an evolving programme of installations which <strong><a href="http://www.drawingmatter.org/?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.com" target="_blank">Drawing Matter</a></strong>, an organisation founded by Niall Hobhouse "that champions the process of architecture through collecting, archiving and commissioning," will use to explore the relationship between architecture, sculpture and landscape.</p>]]>

The design practice, co-founded by Julian Rose and Garrett Ricciardi in 2010, approaches new projects with an interest in the specifics of geography — closely examining the spatial, social, and physical conditions of the location with which their structure will interact.
