The Aldapeta María Ikastetxea School, located on Aldapeta Galtzada Street in the City of San Sebastian, is situated on a privately owned plot of land on a headland called Alto de Aiete, from which there are views over La Concha Bay. The project contemplates the execution of a new 18,000 m2 school, which involves the complete substitution of the original school, which dates from the end of the 19th century. The direction in which education is heading requires new appropriate spaces to educate according to new pedagogical methods. The Colegio de Marianistas in San Sebastián aims to implement a new pedagogical model based on modern educational methodologies, in addition to a commitment to information technologies as tools to support education. For this reason, Compañía de María decided to demolish the old school in order to build a new school, adapted to the new tools, which allows maximizing the new educational practices.

All architecture is built with essential values that determine its condition and nature. Time goes and the modifications we make on them transform or even cause the loss of these formative keys. Restoration works have the aim to put the necessary light on this memory to make architecture return to be again. The hermitage of San Juan de Ruesta ceased to exist in 2001, where administration neglect left into ruins this unique piece of the Camino de Santiago Aragonés, known for having supported one of the collections of Romanesque painting from the s. XII most important in Spain, strapped in 1960 and nowadays exhibited in the Diocesan Museum of Jaca.

In a time of postwar urban reconstruction, the group's primary concern was the formation of new schools, where they wanted to create a peaceful, welcoming, and cheerful environment, with a domestic atmosphere where children could stay while their mothers worked. Understanding the children's interests and providing a suitable environment for exploration and experimentation is one of the focal points of this pedagogy. The creation of a safe and stimulating environment is so fundamental that, in much literature, it appears as a third teacher.

It is a student's right to be educated in a safe, healthy, and even aesthetically appealing environment, especially young students for whom these factors are even more important. For example, it has been shown that when the ergonomics of chairs are inadequate, they can greatly affect levels of concentration and the development of skills such as calligraphy. At the same time, the effectiveness of traditional teaching methods is increasingly being questioned and the quality of alternative methodologies increasingly being considered. In other articles, we discussed in more detail the design of Montessori schools and the atmosphere of Waldorf interiors.

There was an original project, which was built up to a structural level. It was kept like that, unfinished, as many others. The pre-existence was a very powerful mass of reinforced concrete, characterized by the two facades of the first floor that, acting as beams of great edge, support a generous projection of more than 6 meters. It is also noteworthy the sunken courtyards, which allow the total occupation of the basement, so that much of the living area of the house remains hidden under the ground. On the street level, the aim was to read the completed work as an intersection or twin of two different volumes, with different finishing, on which the lighting holes of the house were punctually drilled.

Apartment building in Barri dels
Velluters, a very degraded but attractive historic neighborhood. This is a
private initiative that adds to a series of public proposals (social housing,
facilities) for the recovery of the city center.

The commission began in a private competition, in which our office was selected not by a particular project, but by the attitude showed to the clients to build a maximum house with a very small budget in a complicated plot with a very sharp slope. And not least, the involvement and commitment, perhaps beyond any logical reason, to propose successive approximations to the project (up to five preliminary projects and a full executive project with its visa) before the final solution.

According to Louis I. Kahn the first school began under a tree, when a man who knew he was a teacher began to discuss what he had learned with others who did not know they were students. Like those students, children under 3 years old learn intuitively and unconsciously. Drawing a parallel with the story of Kahn, one might wonder about the role that tree, that is, architecture, plays in the practice of teaching. We strongly believe in the pedagogical value of architecture and, in the case of a nursery school, its actual capacity to create opportunities that help children to develop suggestive, attractive and safely this stage of their life. The nursery school in Berriozar is established according to a model inherited from the Italian municipal schools of Reggio Emilia, where childcare facilities are primarily organized around a main 'square' that serves as interaction and meeting point and as a space meant for the common activities of the school. Given the distinctive longitudinal proportion of the plot, the square had to be placed in a central position along with two separate courtyards at the ends. Thus, the classrooms and facilities moved into an intermediate position, directly connected to both the central square –illuminated and understood as an outer space– and the playgrounds, treated as an extension of the physical and visual interior spaces.
