Can the sun turn a house inside out? The "rabo de bacalhau" (codtail) buildings are a highly characteristic typology of Lisbon's urban expansion in the second half of the 20th century. Structurally, they are organized with thin reinforced concrete slabs supported by solid masonry partition walls, forming a grid that contributes to the stability of the overall building. Located within a building of this type, the apartment was in a reasonable state of preservation.

Considered an essential activity for children and one that is constantly evolving, play has transitioned from a free, informal concept to a structured activity incorporating a variety of factors designed to foster physical, cognitive, creative, and socio-emotional development. Studied by educators such as Friedrich Fröbel, who became renowned for his pioneering theories on kindergarten, play was championed as a driver of spontaneous development through recreational activities. Over time, this laid the groundwork for a concept that spread across Europe during the 19th century and eventually reached the United States with the creation of the first playground in Chicago in 1892, marking a turning point in the relationship between physical space and recreation.

The new PLMJ law firm proposes a set of values that we believe will not wear out in a short time, but rather that in each of the next 50 years we can find ourselves in an exclusive, elegant, functional, and very comfortable workplace. PLMJ's presence in society is evident in the balance it constantly seeks between its external relations and its internal organizational structure. The solution presented seeks to provide answers to this dialectic. On one hand, it guarantees a place of exclusivity, rigor, and elegance for all those who visit; on the other, it ensures extreme functionality, efficiency, and comfort for all those who work there. For PLMJ's large community of partners, lawyers, technicians, and staff, we sought to create an enticing space that fosters the best working conditions and, consequently, the best performance. We believe that performance and productivity stem both from the rigor and efficiency of spatial distributions and circulations, and from the architectural and atmospheric qualities of the workplace.

Thus, much of the interior was demolished and by adapting the program (2 suites, 1 toilet and social area with kitchen) we wanted on the one hand to highlight structural poverty through the pre-existing beam and on the other to propose more noble and harmless finishes in a clear provocation to pre-existence.

Alongside with the similar buildings that compose the street front, it has suffered profound alterations throughout time by the closure of the balconies.
