Initially thought of as a military installation, Chillon Castle has become meanwhile an international tourist destination. The gentle meanders of the garden layouts, inspired by Rousseau, offer the visitor the opportunity to take a stroll. The paths lead to iconic views of the lake, the Alps and the castle, the gaiety of a walk along the water’s edge adds to the refinement of the medieval architecture.

Immeuble Verdeaux is a housing building located on a very specific plot, whose triangular shape allowed very few possibilities to be inhabited. By pushing the vertical circulation out of the envelope of the building, the surface is maximized on each floor. The typology plays then a double game, with on one hand clear-shaped night spaces and on the other hand a daily space evolving in a row with pinching and dilating effects.

The prefabricated timber-frame house stands on a slope with views over the hilly Alsatian countryside. The cubature of the detached house reflects the skilful orchestration of the local building code specifications, with the interior divided into split levels in order to create four independent levels. The roof and short façades are clad in a skin of copper-titanium-zinc alloy, while spaced wooden slats were used on the long sides. The façade materials accentuate the idiosyncratic volumetry of the wooden house. The structure is formed by a wooden shell mounted under the roof, which serves as the upper storey.

It is in the very special geography of the Swiss Jura, near the Lac de Joux (which freezes over in Winter), close to the ski slopes, hiking trails and bike routes where the R. family wished to settle. It is in this very special universe that the architects designed a singular space in response to the location and needs of the family by establishing strong relationships between inner spaces and territory.

For the classroom extension and sports hall construction project in the municipality of Biel-Benken, the primary aim is to provide space to accommodate the increased number of pupils and to suit modern teaching methods. In addition to the school’s sports requirements, a new sports hall is to be built to cater for the various activities of clubs and associations in the local community. The new building will be located on the sloping terrain between the existing school building and Fraumattenstrasse and will form a link between the existing school building in the north and the prospective village square in the south. The school building was completed in 2010 and the sports hall is being constructed in a later stage of the project.

A building particularly worthy of note was constructed on the Bruderholz site, a popular, nearby recreational area, when water reservoirs were built for the city of Basel. Only one floor is visible above ground despite the immense size of the water storage facility. This is due to the architectonical responsibility that the building assumes in the view of its central and public site in the midst of a grown park landscape, hence, the need to integrate the building into the park and to shape this public space accordingly.
