This house is the result of a rehabilitation of a nineteenth century building that was once the post office of the town of Luso, in northern Portugal. Its main use was for services related to the post office, but it also contained a living space for the local director of the post office company, called CTT. The building was characterized by a timber frame construction and outstanding carpentry details. It had an air gap that protected it from humidity and helped preserve the original wood.

Aldeia do Meco is a village located in the south of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, in Portugal. Its proximity to the beaches led to a rapid change over the last four decades and this rural village embodied by low and traditional constructions was transformed into a seaside holiday destination. This change was reflected by out-of-scale buildings in the early 80s. Casa no Meco is a single-family house located right next to these buildings and its massive surroundings guided the new project.

This project involved the rehabilitation of a 3-bedroom apartment, located in a 40 year old building nearby the center of Lisbon. The original layout of this apartment comprised aspects such as a high level of compartmentation and small living spaces, hence creating a rather unpleasant environment filled with shady corners and rooms with little natural light.
