Mortality defines both architecture and human experience. Throughout time, funerary structures have been designed across societies and civilizations to ground personal and shared beliefs. The idea of the afterlife shapes how these buildings are made, from symbolic monuments to vast tombs and crypts. Now a new range of modern architecture has been designed for remembrance and reflection.

Decades ago, when building an important infrastructure in Spain, it was usual to include living quarters for the caretakers. In our case, it was a hydroelectric power plant, still in operation. However, the dwellings had been abandoned and had fell into ruin. The project consisted in the definition of an interpretation centre that would take the place of those ruins, and the refurbishment of the surrounding area. It was an opportunity for working in a natural setting that had already been intervened on.

On a site in the higher part of a residential zone in the environs of Murcia is located the singular, crossed house with views to the adjacent mountains, the "Sierra de la Pila" and "Valle del Ricote". From the ambiguity, being on a site of a future densely built-up area and at the same time enjoying today’s unsurpassable views, was born the idea of the project: to orientate the lower level of the house to the garden's intimacy and grant to the user at the superior level the delight of its views considering future edification and the influence of solar radiation.

Besides the health service of the pharmacy, concepts such as “added value”, “competence” and “visualization” start appearing on the business speech. This 2-story, 180 sqm refurbishment was made in just two months; this was especially difficult because during the first month we were asked to combine sales and building work. This became the main complexity of the building process and the project decisions. Therefore, prefabricating the maximum number of elements was a necessary starting point.
