Located in Foz do Douro, the FOZ TERRACES housing complex takes advantage of the best feature of the land, the transversality between street Marechal Saldanha and street Dr Sousa Rosa, the excellent sun exposure and proximity to the sea. The project is based on the interior garden floor, responsible for the union between the existing level difference and the creation of several living conditions with proximity to nature, well-being, reinforcing the sense of community. Designed in full earth, the garden allows the planting of large trees and integrates several green spaces, which enrich the environment and make it unique in this area of the city, breaking the frenetic contact with the street and providing greater intimacy and comfort to its residents.

A small ruin located on the boundary bordering the public road provides access to a steep plot organized in small terraces, densely populated with olive, chestnut, and orange trees. The search for tranquility and the ruin itself motivated the acquisition of the land and the desire to live in this place. From the very beginning, the design of the house aimed to preserve both the pre-existing structure and this atmosphere.

This apartment, located in a 1932 building, was previously disfigured, having lost many of its original architectural elements due to successive, random interventions by previous owners. The intervention in the space sought, on one hand, to meet the client's brief for a contemporary home adapted to modern lifestyles, and on the other, to respect the memory of the building, restoring its identity.

This is an early 20th-century building that began as a single-story warehouse in 1906, was expanded with a generous upper floor and attic in 1908, and was topped with a prominent central dormer window in 1910.

The rehabilitation project was developed in 2020, during the pandemic, with the goal of restoring the identity of a typical 19th-century Porto house. Located on Rua do Cunha in Porto, the house had been stripped of its character by successive interventions from previous owners. The design sought to breathe new life into the building by recovering its distinctive features while adapting it to the needs of a modern family, composed of a couple and their young child.

The project's registration in the Lisbon Municipal Archive dates back to 1890. From the moment we gained access to the archives and the building, it became clear that there were significant heritage values to protect and rehabilitate, given the relevance, era, and overall quality of the original 1890 design, as well as the building's state of preservation, which had undergone minimal typological alterations. These characteristics led us to opt for an almost invisible intervention, in a sort of attempt to erase our own presence. To achieve this, we employed a series of subtle devices and small alterations that could enhance the spaces, forms, and materials to improve residential use. The main design concepts and the various areas of intervention were developed in accordance with the following principles.

The property, located in the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Coast Natural Park, features three main areas: a higher ridge area, a plateau area, and an extensive valley oriented northwest, extending all the way to the sea. The intervention stems from a thorough analysis of the territory with the aim of establishing a strong relationship with it, incorporating it without altering it. It is governed by a fundamental premise: to align the experience of the surrounding natural environment with the very experience of staying in the hotel.
