Located in Maros, a small town on the outskirts of Makassar, Indonesia, this project occupies a newly developed commercial district where the urban fabric remains relatively sparse, allowing the surrounding natural landscape to remain a defining presence. Conceived as a gathering space, the building is organized across three levels, each accommodating a distinct program while collectively encouraging social interaction, work, and community activities.

The Idea came up with the client's desire to have a small coffee shop of 20 square meters in the front yard of his house. One of the particular requests from clients is the use of affordable yet durable primary materials. The architect then chose two main materials for this coffee shop design: polycarbonate and plywood. Plywood and polycarbonate materials are selected with consideration of durability, availability in the market, and affordable prices. As we know, plywood is one of the most eco-friendly materials and polycarbonate is known as a good sustainable material.

Design planning begins with understanding the lifestyle of the homeowner who is implementing a minimalist lifestyle. The owner of the house is a married couple with 2 toddlers. The spaces are formed according to their needs based on their minimalist lifestyle. Common spaces in Indonesian homes, such as living rooms, walk-in closets, maids’ rooms, pantries, laundry rooms, and prayer rooms were eliminated.
