The existing and already several times refurbished private house lies on the Római fürdő area of Budapest (meaning Roman Bath). Its owners are enthusiastic fanciers of contemporary art. Parallel to the street both sides of the building have been enlarged by the architects. By doing this, together with the light weight superstructure and the low-pitched roof their aim was to construct as compact a building volume as possible.

Buildings, where architectural problems are particularly stylistic ones, can be considered as special examples. The recently completed new building of HungaroControl Zrt. is a building of such kind: an addition that sensitively and innovatively continues the previous phase, a house which organically fits in the creative oeuvre but at the same time becomes a unique experiment in a sense, since the way it uses a well-known material, ceramics is remarkable even in international context.

Just as human skin alters under the influence of sunlight, temperature differences, gravity and age, so this new beauty centre in western Hungary has a constantly changing facade. The 3000 m² building is located in the spa town of Hévíz, which sits on the shores of Europe’s largest thermal lake. For centuries the elderly in particular have been coming to this mildly radioactive lake, rich in sulphur compounds and unique bacteria, to be treated for rheumatism and various other joint and muscular disorders. Nowadays the spa is a popular holiday destination for people of all ages, including in winter, since the water remains at a comfortable temperature.

The architects were expected to design a very light, up to date house. Orientation (sun and shadow circumstances) leads logigally to forming and opening diagonally the plan to the street. Volumetric form fallows the inner function as well. This simple design wants to show a monolitic volume opened with the entrance, terrace and slight glass strips only.
