When the owners of Hirá Ramen Izakaya approached us, they were looking for a solution for the underutilized outdoor area at the restaurant's storefront. Izakayas are a type of Japanese pub that has grown in popularity in São Paulo. Typically, they serve small plates to accompany sake, shochu, beer, and, in Hirá's case, craft cocktails.

The sidewalk as a qualified Public Space: As shared public spaces dedicated for daily displacements of pedestrians, the sidewalks represent a large portion of the city. Nevertheless, in São Paulo, sidewalks with appropriated conditions are rare. In most of the cases they are very narrow, with irregular or no maintenance and presenting many obstacles, which discourage the circulation of pedestrians through the city.

Gêmeas Houses / Zoom Urbanismo Arquitetura e Design

The project elaboration has started from the request of building two houses on the same site – each one for one brother. The lofts are almost the same, having only some small modifications in program and detail between them, and that’s where their nickname comes from Casas Gêmeas, which in Portuguese means "twin houses". Attending each dweller specificity, one of the houses has a wide living room located on the ground floor and two bedrooms and a suite upstairs. In the other house, part of the living room was transformed into an office/clinic, since the owner often works from home.

The Eaves House renovation aimed to adequate a pre-owned family house in a traditional neighborhood of São Paulo to the reality of their grandson’s newly formed family. Thus, the project needed to be flexible to predict its growth and changes throughout the time. There was also a desire to privilege intimate spaces for family time besides social spaces to gather friends for meals or cocktails.

Pamplona Apartment / Zoom Urbanismo Arquitetura e Design

In order to redistribute the spaces in this 60’s apartment, the renovation brought down much of the inner walls, to attend the needs of its new inhabitants. The demolition highlighted the glass frames that run through the whole facade of the apartment, where is located the social area. The luminosity, coming from the floor-to-ceiling windows, crosses all the social areas of the place, making the space - now wide and integrated - filled with natural light.
