The site is located in the heart of Magok New City and is a nodal point of traffic connecting Magoknaru Station on Line 9, Magok Station on Line 5, and Magoknaru Station on the Airport Railroad. At ground level, the site is located next to Magok Central Route running in the north-south direction and Magok Central Route 5 running in the east-west direction. There is greenery to the southwest of the site and Seoul Botanical Garden to the northeast. Additionally, it is surrounded by hospitals, shopping malls, offices and research centers which support nearby residential complexes.

The project is located at the edge of the campus where the Baebong Mountain starts in Seoul, Korea. The project is enclosed by small pond and outdoor stage, in the front, and Baebong Mountain, in the back, which make the location a great spot to overlook the whole campus of University of Seoul. Before the project, the location was used for recycling disposal plant. The project was initiated with the mindset of minimizing the damage to the mountain and green space of the city so that the planning was limited within the boundary of existing facility.

Seonnongdan is a place where the king used to perform ancestral rites to pray for the next year of good harvest. Going through Japanese colonial era and rapid urbanization in 60s and 70s, the original figure has been distorted left to be in shabby condition and put a side on a corner. Through an architectural design competition, Seonnongdan was designated to be history and culture park, in which formality of the rituals merges with the actual historical and cultural content of the place.
