This series of buildings, which constitutes the entrance to Solar das Bouças, is the first application of a global study carried out with the idea of defining an architectural vocabulary for a wider set of tourist/artistic constructions to be carried out in the future in this great viticultural property (hotel, golf course clubhouse, equipment, exhibition gallery, etc.).

Description: This project is a vacation home in Quinta do Lago overlooking the lake, the golf and the sea. A white parallelepiped, consisting of a cropped wall of painted concrete that guides the access to the house, frames the liquid horizons views and materializes the whole implantation area authorized by the housing development regulation.

The building is located in an area of difficult geological, topographical and accessibility conditions. The choice of this location, near the city park, the outdoor swimming pools, the sports hall and schools, aims to create a center of educational activities capable of producing a momentum for the consolidation and upgrading of the urban environment of this part of the city. For the viability of the terrain, it was necessary to design a new route that by continuing the existing fabric, will fix part of the urban expansion around the existing core.

In the elaboration of this project, due to our client's fascination by the landscape's beauty, we tried to produce an architecture that minimized disturbances to the environment. We chose a mono-oriented plan, which was rationalized and simplified to be inscribed in the plot's width.

To meet the clients’ requirements we designed a black and white house with large terraces overlooking the city. The terraces’ drawings led us to involve the house in a heroically suspended ring. Between this ring and the house a garden embraces the oak-trees.

The idea of a house structured by a continuous uncoated white concrete wall came to mind while walking along a Richard Serra steel spiral. It starts on the fireplace and extends to the plot limits.
