This project is a residential design in the Kitano area, Kobe. The city of Kobe is defined by its hilly terrain, shaped by the uplift of the Rokko mountain range, resulting in a cityscape of slopes and inclines. Within this topography, the gaze from the mountains toward the sea has long been a characteristic feature of the urban environment, passed down through generations.

Kobe is a city where the sea and mountains are close together, with its urban area spreading across the slopes at the base of the mountains. In the Sannomiya area, the current city center, the most important urban axis connecting the sea to the mountains is Flower Road, running north-south from Shin-Kobe Station to the port. The Second Pier, the site of this project, is located at its tip. Kobe Port prospered as a mooring facility for conventional cargo ships, but it has now completed its urban role.

This is a project to rebuild an old house in Muko City, in Kyoto prefecture. Farmland and bamboo forests spread surrounding the site. Since ancient times, the area has been delimited by stone walls and dotted with farm-style habitations, each consisting of a main house and a cluster of several other residences forming a single habitation. In recent years, due to the rapid urbanization in the center of Kyoto, many farm-style houses have been demolished and dismantled. The land has subsequently been subdivided into a patchwork of historical residences and new habitations irrespective of the history of the prefecture.

This is a plan for a barbecue field as a park base facility developed by the Park-PFI project. At the time of the proposal, the administration expected that the field would be located in the center of the gymnasium, baseball field, and other facilities in the park and that it would be the focal point of the bustling activity in the park.

This is a plan for a house in Shimogamo, Kyoto. The site is located to the west of the Kamo River, with views of Mount Hiei to the east. The surrounding area is a mixture of traditional townhouses and relatively spacious mansions surrounded by walls and hedges, and in recent years the area is being rebuilt with three-story buildings due to the need for efficient land use. This project was also based on the premise of responding to the high level of land use and the landscape with a long history that is being renewed.

A house in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. It is surrounded by a landscape of complex retaining walls and winding roads that have been created on a slope and are interwoven with lives. The site also contains a number of retaining walls of unknown origin and stairways that look like animal paths, giving the impression that this place is part of the transitional space of the city, and that in the past it was a place where roads intersected the retaining walls. From this situation, we wanted to think about the way in which a home should blend into and be connected to the flow of the city, using the streets of the past or present as a clue. We thought that by doing so, the house would be connected to the image of the city, and the perceived space would not be confined to the house but would expand into the city.

This house is built on a very small site along the railroad tracks. To plan a house for five family members in this place, it seemed necessary not to physically close in this place but to create the connection with the city, also to fold each space of living on a small footprint in a three-dimensional way and in a compact manner.

The construction takes place in a residential zone developed 30 years ago during the bubble period. Although this region used to be an idyllic countryside, following its development by a single developer to residential area as a city block, a rational subdivision into isolated houses surrounded by fences and distant from each other, have been applied to the zone. Additionally, as a result of a house builders' famous 80's and 90's marketing strategy in Japan using the symbol words “My Home” to reply to the increasing housing demand following the economical growth during the same period , these houses were provided a pitched roof.

The site is located in a typically developed area along the slopes of Kobe. The slope was scraped off, but the terrain still shows that character.Since the geographical condition has decided factors like wind direction, abundant sunlight, and vegetation, we thought it is important to conceive an architecture that receives and enjoys the natural environment such as daylighting and ventilation, and also give good effect to the ambience by making it a space composition close to the terrain.
