Since before the Coronavirus pandemic, I had started looking for land parcels along the river near the ocean. Whenever I can find the time, I enjoy an idyllic life of camping and visiting the snowy mountains, where there existed no architecture. The experience of being in a place where no infrastructure is readily available is to me, heartily enriching every time I visit. I often think about how to create something close to this natural experience through architecture in a wide-open space.

No facade. In a time when the world and its values are changing drastically due to the spread of coronas, we must question the common sense of conventional store creation, which starts with "internalizing the space," and rethink the treatment of the "outside" by drawing a new starting line. We believe that we need to rethink the starting line for the "outside. In order to solve the three issues of "economy," "timelessness," and "brand expression," the project began with a search for a "borderline between the outside and the inside" based on the premise of a store without a facade.

Revitalization Plan for Asama Onsen Koyanagi. The revitalization plan for Koyanagi, a long-established ryokan in Asama Onsen, which began in the spring of 2018, is considered a new way for the ryokan to become a cultural complex centered on "books" while retaining the town's 300+-year-old hot-spring bathhouse. The wooden onsen town of the past has been transformed over time into a Showa-era ryokan town with a series of concrete buildings, and the existence of the traditional public bathhouse and community is fading away.

Airbnb is delighted to unveil its new Tokyo office in Shinjuku, Japan. Airbnb continues its mission to create functional workspaces that are enjoyable, practical and reflect Airbnb’s culture and ‘belong anywhere’ ethos with reference to local identity and design. The Tokyo office is reminiscent of a neighborhood, reinforcing Airbnb’s new neighborhood guide focus. From the reception and café area, a wooden path leads to a series of building-like meeting rooms, designed using distinctive exterior cladding and interiors based on existing Airbnb listings. Airbnb’s Environments Team worked closely with local architects, Suppose Design Office, to create a 500 sqm office space.

Go back in time to the past, in the Japanese store arcade, a woman with a baby sling stood in front of a store counter to juggle with store work and housework. There was a kind of margin it allows others to step into private of the house. We think it was the origin of the public. However, it has turned into the situation which doesn’t allow to make coexistence. Everything is segmented in order to pursuit convenience and efficiency in recent years. We seriously believe that it is necessary to think about how architecture should be in our time when the society is changing to diversity from just taking productivity.
