The “Redemptoris Mater” parish complex constitutes a new “landmark” that fits into and communicates with the surrounding area. The intervention responds to the requests of the population, translating the needs into architectural forms. The church space is made up of a monolith covered in ceramic material flanked by an isolated bell tower, which will seem to emerge from the ground, almost uniting with the sky, evoking in a contemporary key the ancient towers on the coast.

Studio Kuadra’s design for a new church complex in Cinisi, Italy has been selected by the Monreale diocese as one of the winners in the New Redemptoris Mater Church competition, held by the CEI’s National Service for the Building of Worship. The design, incorporating strong liturgical elements – including custom religious artwork – focuses on a relationship between exterior and interior. Read more about this proposal after the break.

The new headquarters are the product of an addition to the overlooking eighteenth century Palazzo del Fucile, left in a total abandonment until 2005, when it was acquired to be renovated by the bank. The project completes the trapezoidal lot defined by the pre-existing structures and creates a new public square called “of Cooperation”.

A cascade of chains on the facade, dynamic space, mobile, changing, not what you would expect from a bank, especially in a province at the foot of the Maritime Alps. The branch of this Credit Agency, winner of a closed competition, brings a breath of lightness and a levity that would be more common in a completely different sort of building; an exhibition centre or a performance venue, for example.
