Evergreen Valley College sits at the base of a range of sunburned hills in south San Jose. The park-like character of the campus stands in stark contrast to the golden hills in the near distance. Campus buildings are nestled into the lush vegetation along a main axis, which runs northeast to southwest. At the northeast entry, a new library building dominates the entrance into the academic precinct, succinctly announcing its importance in scale and architectural inflection to the academic community.

As the first architectural structure of Crafton Hills College’s long-range master plan, the Learning Resource Center (LRC) project attracted staff participation at all levels, including the college president; executive director of facilities & planning; director of facilities; district program management consultant and vice president of academic affairs, as well as the Dean, relevant department heads, and campus specialties. The team explored how to connect existing resources to allow for campus and community interaction and expose students to various programs. Tutoring spaces and library resources were combined with multimedia training facilities to enable a broad range of teaching environments. The planning team worked closely together to discuss the client's goals and needs, and translate them into architecture. The result is a new peninsula connection for the campus where learning is showcased and social interaction among students and faculty is encouraged.

Located in Saratoga, Calif., West Valley College’s new technology classroom building has become a landmark and new campus gateway, framing both pedestrian and vehicular access to the campus.
The building’s layout is designed to encourage students to remain on campus and promotes informal interaction with classmates and faculty. It includes outdoor plazas and courtyards with wireless access for instruction as well as individual and group study.
