Shih Chien University Building-B was completed in 1975 for the Art & Design Department, and because of the Modernism influences during that period the building has a very clear column-beam structural grid system, horizontal window opening and vertical space linking all three levels of building volumes. After a few previous refurbishments, the existing architectural form has gradually lost its intended connection between the inside and outside, and its original sense of the architectural horizon is diminished.

In 1933, the first modern steel reinforced concrete station in Taiwan – the Chia-yi Railway Station – was completed. There was no station square at that time. With the development of transport and the increasing needs of transit, a square gradually took shape after 1950, becoming the starting point of the space for the small town. Over the past 50 years, the square underwent several times of adjustments; inside of the square gets congested by various types of vehicles, becoming chaotic and lacking a sense of modern city.

“Floating” was a temporal architecture exhibited in the TFAM plaza which lasted for three months. The plaza is situated on the edge of urban center, adjacent to riverbank on the north side, hence causing frequent wind across the plaza. Due to the unbearable gusts of wind and subtropical sunlight on this plaza, people visiting the museum usually hurry inside the museum building, leaving the plaza a space lacking vitality.

Light-House is located in Hsinchu County, Taiwan. This multi-storied residential building block is designed in consideration of common Taiwanese terrace style houses. This project seeks to rethink the fundamentals of this particular housing model and intends to reinvigorate its underlining idea as “Lian-dong” (describing a continuous housing block) and “Tou-tian” (terrace houses describing buildings with roof spaces open to the sky) in the design approach.
