The fact that the best potential views are generated towards such a complicated orientation for sunlight at this latitude, results in a volume that opens to the environment but is protected to the sun incidence, generating a volume and a very special personality.

On our first visit to the site was remarkable the amount of native trees that were in the field. As a first request to our client we asked for a detailed topographic study of all the trees in the site. From the beginning we intended to respect all the trees. Once we had the study in our hands, we faced a notable challenge… the possibility of keep all the trees, at least all of the medium and large size, assumed significant complexity. After studying multiple alternatives with conventional layouts (U shape, L shape, in two or three volumes, etc…) we figured out that in all cases we would have to cut an important amount of trees

On a piece of land located in Uaymitun at the north coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, with 12.5 meters of seafront, we were asked to design a summer house that would accommodate a three-generation family: one house for the owners and their children; and a small apartment for the owner´s parents. The initial challenge on designing the house was to accomplish that all the bedrooms and social areas had an ocean view, in spite of the reduced front to do so.

The idea of closing the building to the exterior was mainly needed for security reasons.

Merge of architectural influences from different periods, the design of this house seeks to bond tightly with the lush vegetation of the landscape through a unifying point of view, sober and efficient. This two-bedroom house was designed for a young couple with one son. The site on which it is located and its context are heavily forested with the local sub-tropical vegetation. The less densely vegetated area was located to deploy the house. This natural context often transformed into conventional gardens is conserved and integrated as a primary element in the design of the house.

This lot is adjacent on the opposite part to the street, to the fairway of a golf course, in which the best views are towards the south-southeast. One of the main issues with this project is the proximity of the golf cart track, so privacy was an important matter, especially as the estate’s depth is only 40 meters long (about 130 feet). The main privacy issue for the clients was the location of the swimming pool, placing it in the backyard of the house (as it´s usually done) would expose it to the golf player’s. The analysis of the contextual circumstances previously mentioned, gave rise to theformal approach and dictated from the beginning the guidelines for the project´s main conceptual idea and distribution.

The clients, a couple with four daughters, wished to have a beach house for all of them, in a 23 meter beach-front lot. Their original idea was to have a seafront main house and three adjoining bungalows in back, so in this approach, only the main house would have frontal views to the ocean, and the bungalows wouldn’t. This is especially important taking in regard that even if today no next-door neighbors have built their beach houses, it could happen in any time in the near future. The program required four social areas with their respective services and 10 bedrooms (4 in the main house and two per bungalow). In addition there was a requirement of a shared service and support area.
