Wave Imaginary — Whether in literature or science, waves are both ubiquitous and mysterious. In the everyday environment of Earth, only a few visible continuous media generate observable waves, such as water waves, while experiences at the human scale are even rarer, with surfers being among the few who can enter the interior of ocean waves. As a man-made structure, architecture is formed through static systems that create fixed spaces to meet human needs for activities and rest within flat surfaces. Consequently, it is challenging to draw direct comparisons with dynamic systems like waves. Only fixed locations such as skateboarding pools provide an experience of dynamic undulation. In recent works by Scenic Architecture Office, the focus has consistently been on three directions: "courtyard settlement," "extension of homes," and "free cell." Among these, "free cell" explore new architectural forms through the integration of technology and spatial experience. The continuous undulation of mountains and waters, the traditional clustering of architectural rooftops, the reproduction of cells, and the transmission of information all share a morphological connection to waves. We have been continuously thinking whether the morphology of waves could offer further insights for the future of architecture. The "Wave Cube" project by Jin Hai Lake has provided us with a rare opportunity for exploration.

Inside and Outside. The museum is located outside of the town, which automatically constitutes the first level of inside-outside relationship: the museum in the greenbelt is independent of the entire town. In order to clarify this independence, we placed the main interior space of the museum on the east side of the greenbelt, and the 60-meter distance from the east entrance of the town becomes a buffer zone between the town and the museum. This intentionally broadened boundary, like the natural succession of fields at the edge of Luzhi town, enables us to manage the spatial experience before entering the museum: For visitors coming from the town, this space will hint at the border of the town and the beginning of the greenbelt with the ambiance of the museum, so that people can serenely and naturally continue their art journey; for the museum, this space is a precursor of the visiting experience, an external temperament, and an outward expansion.

The Horticultural Expo Village is located on the northern slope of Xian Mountain, which is in the northern part of the 11th Horticultural Expo Park, Nanjing. The terrain is high in the south and low in the north, where the Scenic Architecture Office designed the Northern Inn of VOCO B&B Hotel, a small shed in the northwest corner of the melon field, and a covered pedestrian bridge to the north of the village. This stretch of the Qixiang River flows along the northern foot of the Xian Mountain, and the east and west sides offer a great view of the valley in the direction of Baohua Mountain and Zhong Mountain. The pedestrian bridge connects The Horticultural Expo Village and the Jumbo Museum to the north of it, making it easy for guests to come and go. Crossing the river from the north to the south, the Bridge of Nine Terraces is a walking pathway into The village, with the Xian Mountain, Lian Mountain, and Yangshan Mine Pit unfolding in front of you behind the village. In addition to meeting the circulation needs, we hope to build a pedestrian bridge here as a resting place and a landmark to the north of the village, so that seeing the bridge gives people a feeling of "going home".

With a compact site, this 40-class school was built under a high FAR of 1.4. On this long and narrow site, the only suitable location for the 200-meter track and field is on the west side, which also helps to block traffic noise from Longwu Road. According to building codes regarding setback, fire protection, sunshine and noise control, the main classroom building can only be arranged in two rows on the east side. The multi-function building is then located between the playground and the academic area, accommodating the multifunction hall, covered sports field, gymnasium and other activity spaces.

Designof High-rise buildings often brings up questions about the relationship between “Tower” and “Podium”. This pre-conceived classification comes from their obvious difference in height. Zhangrun Office Buildings is located in Zhangjiang High-tech Park, Shanghai. Besides 42,000-square-meter research and development office, the project also houses 1,500-square-meter commercial facilities. In this project, we tried to change the typical Form-type of tower and podium to improve customer experience and bring extra value to the client.

The project is sited in the southeastern corner of Zhujiajiao, a traditional water-town in Qingpu, Shanghai. Far from the crowd and noise of the northern tourist area, it is a quiet neighborhood. The new building of the neighborhood committee and old folks day care center sits at the confluence of two small rivers and will provide community services for the locals.
