Located in the heart of Chengdu, a major northwest city in northwest China, the project was supposed to be a 20-day temporary installation to celebrate the eighth anniversary of Taikoo Li, an open, low-density neighborhood-form shopping mall, Roarc Renew designed it as a foundationless building, defining it as a "time-limited building" practice.

Designing is mostly about interpreting. Saturnbird first grabbed attention of Roarc Renew because of its unique Chinese name - Sandunban (Three and a half). If we break it up, it means three meals for the body and half meal for the soul. What a true reflection of the living conditions of most people! Whether it reflects full implications of the brand is unknown for me, but I am sure this is part of the brand story. From my personal interpretation, the brand is trying to tell us the relationship between the body and the soul, a quite interesting topic. Three meals a day for the body, and a half meal of coffee for the soul.

Both Sukhothai and the ancient city of Nanjing are places of peace that make people feel at ease and relaxed. Either for Nanjing, the ancient capital of six dynasties or for Siam, the mystery is the common term in the oriental world that originates from the beliefs and habits of people. The special unrestrained style of Sukhothai echoes with the ambiance of streets and lanes in Nanjing. The oriental world is located in the east in position but its cultivation mainly remains in the south of China. Nanjing in the south resonates with north Thailand in cultivation. The same cultural origin bonds us closely in our direction, while Erawan can also find its One World ideology in Confucianism. According to the topic of this design plan, designers find a starting point from common characters of two cultivations, i.e. Place Mapping. Place Mapping is a design methodology gradually summarized by Roarc Renew in the design of numberless projects. This is the first time that Place Mapping is put into practice directly in a project.

Fuxing Park locates in the north of Middle Fuxing Road, shaded by oriental planes, while Roarc project “WE+lab” starts in the FUXING Plaza, an old three-storey building that seems to be out of place amongst the French garden. Our challenge lies in how to elegantly blend the project in the French grace and romance of the Fuxing Park.Stepping once again into this park, Roarc team was overwhelmed with the astounding characteristics of the French garden: axis, axial symmetry, gridding, patterning, as well as the beautiful flowers, planes trees, pavilions and ponds. Our team determined to salute the only French garden with our design.

In architecture, “Joints” is a word carries much weight. A “big” construction is composed of many “small” joints. The big construction is shown in small details. To be more specific, the forms and structures of joints will decide the final shape of a construction; and the quality of these joints will define the quality of the construction.

RoarcRenew renovated the space of Carlowitz & Co. (third to fifth floor) in Middle Jiangxi Road into a unique co-working space. The original building, constructed with large natural stones and red ganged bricks in 1898, was the biggest architecture among all public concession buildings in Shanghai. The continuous refurbishment during recent years reconstructed the architecture from the original wooden structure to a steel structure. In this project, RoarcRenew kept the original structure, concrete walls and the architectural texture repaired.

The building in Mandela project has a brick-concrete structured warehouse and was renovated in the 1980s. In 2014, it was again renovated and reinforced with additional steel structures. The original concrete walls and its patched texture have been well preserved and covered with clear glass, which created an effect of two textures collage. The staircase, as the media for emotional and functional interactions, becomes the most important element in this whole space.
