This residence is a 1960s house designed by architect Clovis Thompson de Carvalho. Our goal was to create a design that preserved the building's original features while giving the spaces a fresh, updated, and lighter feel. We chose to restore and maintain the existing house and landscaping, preserving their original characteristics. This involved restoring the original handmade clay tile flooring, as well as the exposed brick of the fireplace and the window frames.

Although it looks like a home, this is actually a photography studio for photographer Fernanda Bozza. Located in a commercial building in the Jardins neighborhood of São Paulo, the project was inspired by Fernanda's previous studio, which was based in her home—hence the idea to bring that same warm, welcoming atmosphere to the new space. Specializing in portraits of women, expectant mothers, and babies, the studio is organized into two distinct zones.

Studio Massa / Renata Gaia Architecture

Located in the Moema neighborhood in São Paulo is the new Studio Massa store, by Recife-born designer Renata Brennand. The space is a former house that had already undergone major transformations; when we first arrived, it was still a clothing store, complete with fitting rooms, a segmented layout, and almost no natural light. We intervened in the property to make it more spacious and bright to house the furniture, most of which is colorful and vibrant. To highlight these pieces, the entire store was “washed” in white, creating spaces with contrast that accentuate the silhouettes of the displayed furniture.

Located in the city of São Paulo, this 157-square-meter apartment functions as a blank canvas for its young residents, who are art collectors. Featuring a spacious living room, the apartment has integrated social spaces. The barbecue area connects to the kitchen, which can be closed off by a muxarabi folding door. The large glass-enclosed balcony is also integrated with the dining and TV rooms.

The original layout of the apartment featured a large balcony and a disproportionately smaller living room. The starting point for the design was to redesign this area, envisioning that multiple activities could take place simultaneously in that space. The element that organizes this large area is a white carbon steel box that wraps around the existing concrete pillar, articulating each of its faces with its specific environment and function: a coat closet, a china cabinet, a wine cellar, and a TV stand.
