This summer house, situated on a sloping lot in the interior of São Paulo, faces north toward a beautiful valley. Because of its corner location, access could be positioned on the highest side of the plot, allowing the entire social area to enjoy the views and optimal sun exposure.

This project is characterized by the delicacy of its intervention. The existing house was originally commissioned from Oscar Niemeyer's office, but was designed and signed by Carlos Lemos in the early 1950s, and has been preserved to this day with few alterations. The renovation and expansion to adapt it to its new function as an office and study center sought to maximize the preservation of the original architecture, both internally and externally.

Serving as a summer house for the families of two brothers, Braunas Residence organizes an extensive program of social and private spaces on a single-floor house. Both families already used to get together often on weekends and vacations, so it was a natural decision to build the project as a coexistence space for the whole family. As for the project, that meant the only strict spaces are the couples' suites, children's bedrooms are shared between cousins and every other space is for common use.

The Edifício Argentina, located in Botafogo Beach, is a significant business center of the city. It was built in 1978 during the Brutalism architecture of the 70s and has a central line distribution and two elevator blocks organization. When we were asked to implement this branch office in Rio de Janeiro, for whom we have already projected its head office in São Paulo, we faced a building that all receptions were central and next to the elevators, far from the natural light and consequentially dark.

The extensive and complex program of this holiday house led us to embrace an architectural concept that subdivided all functions in different constructive blocks. The result is a group of volumes with different functions interconnected through circulations axis, that could successfully solve the program in a way that is gentle and articulated, both with the irregular corner format and terrain site. The volumes were positioned along with the sunnier facades and the correlation between indoors and outdoors of the countryside landscape.

The site, of 10,000 m² and adjacent to a beautiful native forest, was slightly downhill facing north and also the best view. The program of this house should be divided between "daytime area” and "night area”. The "night area” would be in higher floor, to provide warmth and safety in this period. On the other hand, the "daytime area” should stay in a lower floor w th full connection to the outside and the garden. The rooms should be broad and open with many patios.
