The Automatic Mills, a national cultural monument, is one of the first buildings designed by the architect Josef Gočár. Standing on the banks of the Chrudimka River in the center of Pardubice, the monumental mill building was created in 1909 for the Winternitz brothers. In 1924, the complex was extended to include a grain silo, the conversion of which we designed. The automatic mills operated continuously for more than 100 years until 2013. Since 2016, the mill brownfield has been transforming a cultural and social urban district, thanks to the initiative of the Automatic Mills Foundation.

A small plot, in the inner backyard, just behind the main square, surrounded by the solid walls, everything is cramped here. These limits gave the extension the shape of a tower with a minimal floor plan and pushed it to the very border, to the northern part of the plot.

Biotope, more than ever, becomes a very popular type of artificial bathing system with a natural water-cleaning technology (non-chemical). The guest facilities are inbuilt into former garages for agricultural machinery. We keep the old reinforced concrete prefab structure with the ornamental ribbed ceiling, while the space between the columns serves newly for refreshments, cafeteria, sports rental, sanitary units.
