The proposal for this house started from the client's desire to enjoy a protected exterior space, intimately connected to the interior program. The available lot resulted from the division into parcels of a family plot, a markedly longitudinal strip bounded by two distinct roads. On the north a high traffic national road to which a decharacterized surrounding structure has joined along time. On the south, a stone paved local road that delimits a set of agriculture fields forms a clear rural landscape with major interest. The patio typology, ancestrally tested in urban environment, emerged naturally as a solution to test. The two opposed realities on the north and south motivated its adaptation by opening a partial opening in one of the sides, thereby creating an open patio.

Paço de Vitorino is a manor house located in the north of Portugal that has been in the same family since the mid-16th century. It's history is marked several relevant events. The most outstanding dates from the mid-18th century when a major intervention occurred according to baroque canons. The resulting structure is characterized by a three stories main house on the east side, two lateral wings on the north and south side and a small chapel along the entrance wall on the west. These elements delineate a central large yard defined by adorned facades.

This holiday house for a family of four is located in the north of Portugal. It's shape is defined by the same number of individual volumes. They have similar dimensions but distinct orientations. Three of the volumes are orthogonally organized around a core, whilst a fourth rotates to match the direction of an existing neighbouring building. The proximity between the two constructions led to a desired dialogue. The modest dimensions of the existing building determined the scale of the house while the vernacular identity influenced its layout. Each volume has a two slope roof. Besides emphasizing its individuality it enabled to increase the plasticity of the composition.
