Muda L11 House / Pereira Miguel Arquitectos

The project is located on an agricultural plot defined by the Muda Detailed Plan, in the Rural Intervention Zone – South, in the municipality of Grândola, Portugal. The land area is generous, with approximately 5 hectares, allowing for a 500m2 building away from the access road and other neighbors. The new building was placed in the central area near the western building boundary, in an area where there was a small clearing and on the border between pine vegetation and a small watercourse with other species such as deciduous trees.

This has been a refurbishment project, both interior and exterior, of a four-storey residential building, consisting of basement, ground floor, 1st and 2nd floor and accessible flat roof. It has an unusual footprint, since it occupies the middle of the lot, with patios on the front and back, in a cul-de-sac location, between Rua da Escola Politécnica and Rua de São Bento in Lisbon. The area is characterized by a compact grid, with housing buildings from various periods of the 19th and 20th centuries.

The project consisted of creating a social, cultural and sports facility in the center of Vila de Aguiar, more precisely in Rua Pedras do Lagar. The aim of this multipurpose pavilion is to provide the area with a social center, capable of bringing together local and neighboring inhabitants in a single space for socializing and cultural services.

Located in Comporta, L2 House inserts itself into a long and inclined plot. The project's placement on site is generated by the existing topographic conditions. By following the slope, two levels are formed recreating the topography as displaced extrusions of the landscape. Therefore, at the lower level, which is closer to the front of the plot, a concrete parallelepiped emerges from the slope. This volume defines the base level for the house, where a white volume rests. The displacement of the two volumes results in two distinct outdoor spaces that characterize the occupancy of the house. Facing east, a large terrace is established on top of the concrete platform. This extends to the west side, creating a connection with the rear of the plot.

Located in Comporta, MJA house results from an extension of the existing house on site. The project is made up of four distinctive volumes that are perpendicular to the main house, a set of access paths, and a pool, the central piece of all these elements. The new volumes are defined by rectangular concrete platforms, laid on the site on only one level.

B. Hostel / Pereira Miguel Arquitectos

B. Hostel is located in Comporta, and is part of the urban area in Brejos da Carregueira da Cima. The building is part of a square placed between two roads, that works as the main public and social area of the allotment. The project aims to define the square with a contemporary building, that due to its volume creates a central point in the urban area.

The project consists of an urban renewal intervention in an abandoned area along the railway Northern Line, between the Santa Apolónia and Xabregas stations. This parcel had an industrial use and consisted of a set of two buildings and a vacant lot owned by IP Património. The intervention involved converting this area into a co-living of the Smart Studios brand, which offers small functional studios in a condominium, with all facilities included (TV, Internet), kitchenette, private bathroom, and other amenities such as outdoor pool, gym and laundry.

House for a Buddhist – Monchique. In the hills of Monchique, between ups and downs, taking advantage of an extraordinary situation is this single-storey house. Set in a southern slope, with access by small and winding tar road, lies over one of several existing terraces that tear the steep slope into small cultivable levels. It is in this scenario that one arrives to contemplate all the open view towards the Algarve coast and sea. The small hills are diluted as the distance increases and the entire path of the sun is visible from the edge of the pool.

Like so many other buildings in Portugal, this has been a ruin for decades. Located in the nº 27 of square Largo 1º de Dezembro in São Pedro, Sintra, a world heritage village with a mountain full of Palaces, Castle, Convents, and other natural marvels. This small building was completely renovated to accommodate two tourist apartments. Its architectural and landscape surroundings make it perfectly integrated into the historic setting and serene environment of Sintra.

The Dune House project tries to establish a new relationship between architecture and landscape, by using the two universes into one unique group. The two artificial sand dunes connect the house to the landscape and extend its limits far away. In the middle of these two hills, four concrete arms shelter all living functions, in a crisscross direction.

A Lisbon couple sets off into a real estate adventure and purchases, with an impulse, a small plot with four ruins in the middle of Alentejo called Moinho do Barroco (Barroco’s Water Mill). The location is remote, without paved road access and only accessible in summer, as the river fills and overflows in winter.
