Tabasco House is in the Mexican rainforest, adapting to this environment is critical, it can make the difference between being useful or a problem. One of the premises for the design of Tabasco House was to take advantage of the site’s condition, which is uprooted in an “L” form, leaning towards the south-west area of the land, allowing an extensive space for terraces, pool and patio, the latter located in the site’s most intimate area. Orientation in these climates is crucial, that’s why we oriented the house to the North.

The commission which summoned our architecture and interiors studio, was to renovate a 1,000 m2 house built in 1980 on Paseo de la Reforma. It was required to change the use from residential to corporate. In a volume separate from the house was a small building for storage and service quarters. All with a total of 300m2. The roof of the latter building had 100m2 uncovered, and was entirely surrounded by a typical lattice for tending courtyards.

The east west orientated single-familiy home, was originally built in 1976, is located on the backside of the site, what provides privacy from the nearby road. At the same time the house benefits of the site’s natural scenery, as it provides a great view, adequate ventilation, thermal balance and luminosity.
