New opportunities for obsolete spaces. OOIIO Architecture completes the transformation of a former Shop into an Apartment in Madrid. In 55 m2 this colorful home concentrates what is necessary for contemporary urban life. The rectangular space that configured the former store is embraced by an "L" of cabinets and kitchen, in such a way that it frees the space receiving inside as much natural light as possible. Golden slats direct that light and play with privacy as users need.

Sierra de Madrid is the name of the mountainous region near the Spanish Capital. For those who do not live in the Spanish capital, is very popular among locals thanks to its great landscape and natural value. In winter its peaks are still covered with snow. In summer you can enjoy a good handful of degrees less than the urban oven suffers, being able to even sleep well at night thanks to the coolness of the mountains. There are varied fauna, rivers and clean natural pools in which bathing is allowed, sidewalks and very pleasant routes. Sierra de Madrid is the most recurrent escape door to breathe fresh air for all Madrilenians, especially since it is very close to the city, in 45 minutes by car you can be in the middle of nature, actually, in the middle of a quality natural environment.

OOIIO Architecture designs and builds terraced houses in Madrid, specifically in the Montecarmelo neighborhood, one of the most fashionable residential areas in the capital. If today you walk through the streets of Montecarmelo you can see new homes everywhere, since it is a fairly young area in Madrid. Most of these new constructions convey few emotions, it seems as if they were content to respond to purely mercantile parameters, forgetting that architecture is more than that: a house is actually a memories container for a family, the scenario where your life together with your more beloved relatives is going to happen. When a family decides to build a new house they are actually making a dream to come true.

The contest was organized by the city of Talavera de la Reina into the “10 + 4 URBAN” program, with the aim of the rehabilitation of several city public spaces. OOIIO won two contests, Plaza del Salvador and San Miguel Square, thanks to proposals where ceramic is the protagonist, the most important craft product in Talavera. The process has served to revitalize local craft industry, prevent the closure of small family businesses that have collaborated with us, showing new formats to use ceramics, not only the traditional kitchen objects pottery.
This centuries-old tradition, that is today on a difficult time, now can be used also for the rehabilitation of public space.
