Two horizontal slabs are held up by a grid of 25 columns, leaving the natural terrain below the house free. That is the simple scheme of this holiday house, which sits on a wooded slope overlooking a Swedish lake. The house is approached from the road above, making the roof a prominent fifth facade. Clad in aluminium sheets, the roof softly reflects the surroundings, allowing the house to dissolve into the landscape.

The new Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) headquarters is situated on the campus of EPFL and UNIL universities, next to the Learning Centre on the shores of Lake Geneva. Functioning as both a broadcasting centre and a public venue with educational and research facilities, the building is conceived as a factory that combines technical performance with civic presence.

This single large room is dedicated to one function, to enjoy a private collection of art. Inserted in a steep slope of a garden of a villa in Brussels, the room connects the two different levels on each side of the building. On the higher level, the sliding door opens to a steel platform and a spiral stair that takes you down from the street level to the lower garden level. On the other side, a large window gives way to a roofed terrace overlooking the garden.

‘Tondo’ is a footbridge that connects two buildings of the Belgian Federal Parliament in the center of Brussels. The bridge was explicitly designed as a spatial element, rather than a technical solution. Named after the tradition of the ‘Tondo’, a circular Renaissance painting, the bridge is shaped like a ring, and suspended between the two buildings.

The new library for the faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Ghent can be considered a large, pavillion-like piece of furniture, inserted under the bacony of the existing Physics hall. The accessible, three-storied cupboard forms a complete perimeter around the central, atrium-like space, enforcing its monumental scale. Both the lendable collection as well as the more precious books which can only be consulted, are presented visibly around it.

The party walls of a lot in Tielt are raised to their maximum height. On the side toward the street the elevated wall forms a wide entrance. Within this frame stand two identical buildings, mirror images opposite one another, thus defining an inner courtyard.

The Solo House is a country residence in a large untouched forest, in the mountainous region of Matarraña, two hours south of Barcelona. The house frames the top of a plateau, overlooking the surrounding forests and dramatical landscape. Since the scenery is so impressive, we felt architecture should be invisible, merely emphasising the natural qualities of the surroundings. A simple circular roof with a diameter of 45 meters underlines the qualities of both the plateau and its edge.
