First phase of Norway's New Government Quarter in Oslo completes on the site of the 22 July terrorist attacks. The masterplan by Nordic Office of Architecture includes new routes and public spaces that reconnect the New Government Quarter with Oslo's historic center. The scheme brings government ministries together in an open yet secure civic landscape. Local materials and crafts are used across the new and refurbished buildings. On the site of the 22 July 2011 terrorist attack, which traumatized Norway, the first phase of the New Government Quarter (Regjeringskvartalet) in central Oslo is now complete. Nordic Office of Architecture led the architecture team, with Haptic Architects, Scenario, and i-d. Interiørarkitektur & Design, to deliver a 'design for democracy' that reopens the heart of Norway's political center, creating a new model for bringing government ministries together in an open yet secure civic landscape. The Prime Minister of Norway, government officials and staff will move into the quarters, consolidating almost all Norwegian ministries in a single, flexible campus for approximately 4,100 employees.

The design of Savannen Nursery is based on a desire to create optimal spaces for children's development in downscaled and home-like surroundings. The design is very similar to the archetypal Danish house with pitched roof, windows and a door as imagined by a child and defines a composition that is far less institutional. Further downscaling was achieved by partitioning the building into small units resulting in a cluster structure with niches for varied types of recreation and play zones. The small units provide overview and structure – a safe and manageable environment for all children, especially emotionally sensitive children.

Background. A treatment and housing center for people suffering from dementia has opened in Bærum, Norway. An increasingly important issue with the predicted ageing population is to achieve a better and more efficient care system for elderly people with dementia. Inspired by the De Hogeweyk dementia village in the Netherlands, the 18.000 m2 pilot project addresses these issues and provides a foundation for future dementia care in Norway.

The Elephant Lake Wetland Park provides a quality natural site base for the project and the overall design was inspired by these natural qualities. The design concept of the architecture is not only to see the wetland as a "view" of the surrounding area, but also to bring its natural qualities into the project, creating a spatial experience where the building and the landscape blending together. The design consists of three natural elements, water, earth and sky, corresponding to three functional areas: the front square, the commercial facilities and the observation tower.
