The house, comprising one floor and a basement, was built on a plot sized 408 sqm. The architectural program formulated with the family members was a challenging one. It spoke, among other things, of a transparent yet intimate, present yet unassuming ambience, a large illuminated and airy basement without the “feel” of a basement and a substantial garden.

The house was planned for a family of four. Two cubes separated by a passage combine into an “L” shaped house. The front cube, of double height space, holds the public areas: entrance, living room, kitchen, dining room (all on the ground floor) and a study on the first floor.

This house in Herzelya is located on a long and narrow plot and does therefore present a difficult design task. One of the problems, for example, is that the adjacent house in the west blocks light and airflow. The solution consists of a series of protruding segments breaking out of the contour in the east to generate south and north light and air access. The eastern wall is left with only a few openings.

The house was planned for a young family with 3 children, on a plot with a wide open view to the back, overlooking agricultural fields. After giving a great amount of consideration to the functionality of the space and the movement scheme, we have decided to build a split level house, placing the master bedroom half way between the public area and the children's space.

The house is built on exceptional terrain – very long and narrow plot of 940 sq. m. The proportions were one of the generators for the design. The clients wanted a large, spacious house on one hand, while maintaining the intimacy and the sense of a warm family life on the other.
