Bosjes Guesthouse and Spa is a reconfiguration of an old Cape Dutch farmstead outside of Worcester in South Africa. It is situated in the wine growing Breede River Valley, an hour and a half's drive outside of Cape Town. The farm's attractions also include the Bosjes Chapel designed by Steyn Studio, a restaurant, a large visitors garden, and a garden café and shop designed in collaboration with Steyn Studio. Lower down the farm is also the Botha's Halte Primary School designed by Meyer & Associates. Dating back to 1790, the Bosjes Farm Herehuis (manor house) sits at the foot of the Waaihoek mountains, with its characteristic Cape Dutch gable addressing the valley. Beside it, arranged along the contour are Schuur (historical barn) and Stalle (historical horse stables) buildings - a typical arrangement of Cape Dutch farms.

Garden Cafe / Steyn Studio + Meyer & Associates Architects + Square One Landscape Architects

A creative collaboration between London-based architects Steyn Studio and Square One Landscape Architects’ South African office has resulted in the effortless fusion between architecture and landscape, with gardens that wrap over new buildings, which in turn are woven back into the landscape with intricate trellis structures. It’s a subtle celebration of the Breedekloof Valley in South Africa’s Western Cape region’s rich cultural history and draws its inspiration from the San who first inhabited the valley and who were later joined by early Dutch settlers.

Botha's Halte Primary School / Meyer & Associates Architects

The project entailed the development of a new Primary School, replacing the dilapidated Botha’s Halte farm school, in the Breede River Valley, for the Bosjes Trust. Although a privately sponsored project, the school is operated by the Western Cape Education Department. The new buildings provide a state-of-the-art facility for 250 rural primary school learners from a predominantly farm worker community.
